#1 must be "doxological" - that is, every part of it must give glory to God.

Lyrics, meter, melody, harmony, rhythm as well as the performance of it.

Cherub/Seraph created spirit beings sing "Holy, Holy, Holy". Sounds like a good place to start.

    Others?

What about simply joy and praise? Perhaps add encouragement to the believer.

Anything distracting from those things would not be right, certainly, if it wanted to be considered Christian music. But keep in mind also that different ethnic groups and ages and times have different preferred music, so I think we have to be awfully careful about judging others here.

I don't think that God's standard for music has much to do with what style music it is. He expects our best at all times, though, so that's one thing that it would need to be: our best. It also would have to be honest and true. That's not all inclusive...just my thoughts.

I agree about it being glorifying to God,first and foremost, and also wanted to add....His standard would be the same in music as everything else,it must be biblical. The words and such should match what the Bible says about God,who He is,His character, and attributes. If it is to be true praise,it must bring honor and glory to the name of Christ. It can not be right,if it expresses something different, adds to or takes away, from the one true God in the Bible. So,steeped in biblical Truth is a prerequisite.

But, Helen, aren't ethnic groups actully followers of man-made traditions? Culture is laid down by man, followed by man. If people are born-again, then shouldn't they follow God's standards for music? That's not being jugemental. And there is a Standard for God's music.
