What is happening to this site?

There seems to be a growth in anti-immigrant sentiment (mostly illegal-, but not all) on the Baptist Board lately. Epithets. Suggestions that Illegals be executed.

With growing frequency, racist garbage that ought not be spewed from the mouths of Our Lord's children are posted openly behind the cover of screen names.

It seems worse this past week.

    Is this site imploding?

What is labeled as a Baptist site is essentially a hangout for Conservative Christians. Would anybody here feel comfortable inviting black or Mexican Christians to this site? I sure wouldn't. It would take them all of a few minutes to see the term wetback used (which received support from other members) and statements that suggest that ALL (sic) black people don't want to be a part of this country which was also supported by another member.

There is an anti-illegal immigration sentiment. Always has been As far as having them executed well that is new and unconscionable. However, some of you have not been on this site long enough to know whether it is changing or not. Neither is it correct to broad brush the entire site by a few comments.

I don't care if it has changed or not as it doesn't really have anything to do with the fact that right now there is a steady dose of offensive generalizations that do not reflect a Christian example. The usual people will denounce it, others will support the offensive language and way too many choose to look the other way, including the moderators. By allowing this stuff on this website, it could be perceived as endorsing this behavior.

I'm part of other message boards but this is the only one where it is tolerated.

    We disagree then, don't we.

I do not remember there existing (since I have been here) the level of racism permitted and the calling for, and seconding of, the execution of illegal immigrants. This is more recent.

Been here since 2007 or '08 and it has changed much. Much more negative, much more racist, much more intolerant now. There used to be some folk who were rational and good to discuss issues with. Most left because of the intolerance of the far right here. It has been sad to watch the board deteriorate.

I've noticed an uptick in intolerance as well as voices becoming more shrill. Shameful. I'm surprised that newbies keep signing up. Either they don't read the Politics and Current Events section and are ignorant as to what is said there by some, or they do read it and are encouraged to join (shudder.)

I think the rise of Trumpism and the mantra "he's saying things that need to be said" is emboldening people to say the garbage they feel needs to be said.

I know only this - if there was no work here and my family was hungry, and Mexico had jobs, I would jump the border the other way to feed my family.

Bring that thought home, and it might do something to your thinking about illegal immigrants

Correct. And a particular brand of conservative is favored. I've been called a liberal more times than I can remember and I'm sure you have too, UoT.

This despite taking public stances for smaller government, spending cuts, pro-life, strong military, 2nd amendment rights, tax cuts, etc. For the loudest voices on BB, that's not good enough. I'm a liberal because I don't think photo voter ID laws are needed. <shrugs>

    Absolutely not!

There were more moderate voices here in the past. They've left. The strident voices are louder than in the past.

Absolutely. That thought frames almost everything I think about this issue. Just last week I said I wouldn't have a problem if someone broke into my house for food; several people here said they would shoot that person dead.

Wetback was and is not a racial term. It is a term used by both the Mexicans and the Texans to refer to folks who cross the Rio Grande without the support of a bridge or boat.

That some want to make it a racial term is typical of the political correctness that serves to deny true identity of certain.

The same cannot be said for terms such a spade, mick, honkey, dago, jerry....

Each of those terms, as others like them, are purposed from the start as a derogatory term reflecting upon what was/is perceived as some weakness.

Just recently I heard the term "jerry rigged." The person had no idea that they were using a derogatory term.

Racial tension and confusion has been around culturally as a part of the Tower of Babel judgment by God.

When two cultures clash, there is never a time when they may co-exist peacefully. One will be dominate.

This board is not split by race, but is split by Biblical views.

That some members are concerned that a certain grouping is acting out and making the U.S. into what the concerned ones do not like, is merely an expression of the discomfort and the natural tensions as one group takes on the dominant roll from another.

This board is not church, doesn't replace church, and is not a church setting. Therefore words and ideas get thrown around here that would sometimes not be tolerated in a local assembly.

However, this board is not a free for all - anything goes - freedom of speech site. And the moderators generally do do a good job. They will even correct each other if need be.

Personally, I would applaud any who desire to fellowship and discuss/debate the Scriptures to this board - not just Baptists, but those who do hold to the doctrines of this board.

I don't mind and would give the food of and off the table if one is merely to ask.

But, to break in and steal?

Nope - not going to be tolerated. I am not one who is intolerant, nor am I weaponized.

A thief is not a person who respects.

My house is not a wheat field, apple orchard, potato farm...

It is a place of shelter for invited guests and my family.

    Uninvited guests are not welcome.

It is an ethnic slur. Full stop. Especially the way I've seen it used on this this board. The rest of that post seems to be refuting points I never made.

I would. If you don't want them on here, that's your concern.
