What do you consider the bar to be considered "rich"

Does it just include $ in the bank, value of home, ect?

IMHO, there's a lot more to being "rich" than having money in the bank.

I may be poor in terms of my bank account, but I'm a child of the King and a joint heir with Jesus Christ! Talk about being rich.............!!

Does it get any better than that!! :godisgood:

If we are speaking strictly about monetary riches. Then the only accurate way one can gauge it is net worth not income.

On the USA scale its hard to say just what 'rich' is....

On the global scale I'd say any of us in a position to afford the PC , electricity, and internet connection to take the poll is pretty wealthy.

10 times median pay is a good starting place for "rich." Boggles my mind that working class people would worry about the taxes on people spending 100 or 1000 median pay every year.

I'm not sure I understand. Less fortunate people would like for "rich" people to pay their fair share of the taxes to provide government services like police, fire, military, Social Security, Medicare, etc.

What is fair? Exactly why is it "fair" for somone making 1 million to have 40% of their income confiscated, while someone making 35K pays nothing?

How is it fair for anyone to pay a higher % of income taxes than someone else?

Saying "they have the money" or "it hurts them less" are ways to rationalize what is obviously unfair.

    peace to you:praying:

I didn't really know how to answer this. Someone who makes 150,000 may not be "rich" by some people's standards, but he or she is very well off.

Fairness is illusory. Consistency is what matters. Everyone with the same level of income in the same life situation pays the same tax rate.

I consider rich as a state of self-sustaining living. If you can live the rest of your days with no job or dependence of money from others then I call you rich. This accounts for the fact a hermit can be rich and yet dirt poor. It's the difference between working because you must work and working cuz you have nothing better to do.

I consider a person who makes at least $1,000,000 a year or more rich. However, If I made $50,000 or more a year, that would be more than enough to get me by.

For conservatives rich is pretty conistent at 1,000,000.00. But for libbies it moves around a lot according to how much tax money they want. Yesterdays 250,000.00 is todays 80,000.00.

Actually, this depends to a large extent on where you live.

Rich is the ability to live comfortably without having to work for an extended period of time. I was out of work for 10 months while having to recover from foot surgery. It stretched my personal resources to the point that I realized that personal wealth is not in material things and possessions but in number of loving relatives, friends and associations.

It depends on where one lives, how many in the family, debt to income, etc. There is no answer that is right.

Case in point, Michael Vick owns millions worth of real estate and possessions...yet he filed bankruptcy.

He filed bankruptcy because the bank owns it and his career is down the tubes.

Most people who think that they are rich really dont live like they are rich. Lets look at it like this in terms of poor, middle class, and rich

Poor people ask did you get enough they look at quantity

Middle Class people ask you was it good, they look at quality

Rich people ask you how was it presented, they look at presentation

I would say that alot of what we consider rich people actually live as Middle Class people, they dont want to be RICH in terms of how the world views RICH
