I studied on the distinction between sin and sins. Sins are our wicked acts. Sin separates us from God. Please answer my question: What is the character of sin, not sins?

The root of all sin is pride. That is it's character.

1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

The law is the knowledge of sin. (Romans 3:20) You are right.

The sin separates us from God. What is sin? What character of Sin?

It is anything that we decide to do outside of assurance that God is pleased with it. In other words anything that is not done in faith. Sort of I will have it my way attitude.

The sin separates us from God. Is that pride? </font>[/QUOTE]Yes, we are naturally born into a state which causes us to reject the commandments and knowledge of God for our own desires. As far as describing the character of sin, I don't see how it gets any more complicated than that.

I realise you're asking a leading question, so perhaps it would be more productive if you explained exactly what kind of answer you're looking for.

Sin is simply doing what God said do not do OR not doing what God said do.

Sin is disobedience due to selfish nature or pride which CAUSES rebellion. It is in the rebellion that we are separated from God, just as the Devil's pride caused him to want to go above God and his ultimate rebellion caused him to be cast out from heaven!

KJV Romans 14:23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

KJV James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Sin is the opposite of Adam and Eve when they were in the garden before they ate of the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Sin is living in our nature or flesh!

After they ate the forbidden fruit, they became sinners. Sin entered the world. (Romans 5:12) What is the character of sin that is living in our nature or flesh?

As Spurgeon put it, sin is "the lack of comformity to the will of God". You can try to embellish it all you want but it doesn't get any more complicated than that. All sin has it's root in pride. No matter how many times you repeat the leading question, the answer will remain the same.

The character of sin that is our flesh is PROUD! Our pride gets in the way of comforming to the will of GOD!

Habakkuk 1:13 Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?

One of the primary attributes of God is His Holiness. When one grasps the greatness of the holiness of God, then he also will grasp the magnitude or the greatness of his own sin. Sin flies in the face of the holiness of God. It is an abomination to Him.
