No big secret on this one

"Gospel" is from a Greek word, euaggelion (Strong's Lexicon G2098) and literally means 'good tidings' or 'good news'. In the context of the New Testament, it specifically refers to the 'good news' of God's work of Salvation. This sentence from Paul's letter to the Christians at Rome essentially claims Paul is an apostle - not disputed by anyone during the time - and was specifically recruited by God to preach the gospel to the world at large.

The Gospel contains the death, burial and resurrection of Christ, 1 Cor 15:1-4. The Gospel is also the power of God unto salvation, Rom 1:16. How the death, burial and resurrection is preached and believed determines whether it is the true Gospel or a counterfeit that has no power at all.

The Gospel is the "good news" - a proclamation that the Kingdom of God is open to all in Christ.

    The good news of God.

    MHO is that

But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, 1 Peter 1:19,20

The Christ the lamb of God was obedient unto death and therefore received the promise of God who cannot lie.

In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; Titus 1:2

Being; And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. Col 1:18

Thus becoming: the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 The Faith

By which those enslaved to Satan can be redeemed from death, incorruptible, inheriting the kingdom of God.

    Scripture states:

Romans 1:16.For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Some think the power of the Gospel resides with the individual. Scripture says otherwise!

I guess what I'm looking for is a succinct explanation of what the Gospel is in terms that the average lost person can get.

The Church seems to have lost sight of what this Gospel is.

    So what is this Gospel?
No churchisms but just plain, ole simple words that a person who has no hope can hear and know that there is hope.

So what is this Gospel? And why hasn't the church recently slowed down long enough to REALLY think about it and live it out?

    What is this Gospel?

I have heard the idea that "the Gospel is the Good News that Jesus Christ died to save sinners" but I like the Scriptural definition better!

24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

    Pretty simple, all in all

    1. God made the Universe and all contents, including man.

    2. God gave man simple instructions on how to live properly.

    3. Man (both mankind and the individual) decided not to obey God.

    4. This disobedience rendered man (both mankind and the individual) liable for immediate separation from God and eternal death and eternal separation from God.

    5. God provided a substitute for the death penalty due to man (etc.).

    6. God provided this sacrifice on the basis of the individual's agreement to both the substitution and formal obedience to God.

By the way, Zaac, even if you don't really give a hoot; this is a good exercise for any Christian.

But how would you explain that to a lost person Old Regular? How do you break that down after saying it to them in such a way that they perhaps go "Ahh, that's what you're talking about and yes that is appealing to me"?

Archie, yes all of that is true. But if I'm in the middle of the deserts of Africa, that explanation would be like speaking Greek to folks who speak Yiddish.

The Gospel of God is universal. That was a very Americanized response. It comes across as sterile and absent any real feeling.

I'm looking for a universal explanation of what this Gospel is.:flower:

That God sent his only begotten Son in the world, born of woman and he was obedient unto death, even the death on the cross and God his Father who had begotten him, beget him again, with life from the dead, therefore you also can be saved, redeemed, born again.

And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers, God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee Acts 13:32,33

What does it mean to be saved? redeemed? born again?

How do you speak to people where they are before you try to explain this to them?

The God that created the world and the whole universe loves us and wants to have a personal relationship with us today and forever and ever, even after we die. However, we've screwed up by rebelling against God and by sinning (breaking his laws), making this relationship impossible and causing us to be separated from Him while we live and after we die.

    But there is good news!

God sent His only Son, Jesus, to earth to take away our sins and make us righteous in God's eyes, thus making it possible for us to commune with God even after we die. God's punishment for us breaking His laws were put on Jesus when Jesus was killed, but Jesus didn't stay dead, he rose from the grave and then went to be with God, his father, setting the example for us. If we truly believe that Jesus was God's son, that he died for our sins, and that He rose from the dead, we can be saved and know and communicate with God. We too, will live again and go and be with God after we die. This is the good news that is also known as the Gospel.

The Gospel explained in it's simplicity to man in a dead state is foolishness to him unless the Spirit gives him life to believe.

They do know already that they are going to die, do they not? They may not know why but I bet all know they will.

ITL, I think that's really good. Just needs to be more basic.
