Calvin and Hobbes, aren't they two of the most renowned Christian theologians of all time?!?

From Bill Watterson (creator of C&H) himself, via snippets from http://www.ucomics.com/calvinandhobbes/characters.phtml:

    Calvin
Calvin is named for a sixteenth-century theologian who believed in predestination.

    Hobbes
Named after a seventeenth-century philosopher with a dim view of human nature, Hobbes has the patient dignity and common sense of most animals I've met. Hobbes was very much inspired by one of our cats, a gray tabby named Sprite.

    Miss Wormwood (Calvin's teacher)
As a few readers guessed, Miss Wormwood is named after the apprentice devil in C.S. Lewis' "The Screwtape Letters."
    ------------

Personally, I love C&H, as well as Bloom County. As a kid, I loved the Richie Rich comics and the Archie stuff.

Peanuts, without a doubt! UK newspapers don't run nearly as many as the US papers do (four or five strips per day, maybe) but Peanuts was on the back cover of our paper from the day I was born so I can't remember not being a fan! I have hundreds of Peanuts books still in the UK which I guess I had better clear out of Mum and Dad's house when I'm there in November!

I loved it when Peanuts would have an ongoing storyline. Does anyone remember a few years before the end, Snoopy's brothers Andy and Olaf showed up to see him in hospital? They got lost on their way home and there would be a strip with them in every few months or so. Sadly, we never did find out what became of them.

Do any UK members like Fred Bassett? Mainly just the wry observations of a Bassett Hound, but on occasions it could be really funny!

My all time favorite is Ziggy.

Next in no particular order are:

    1. B.C.
    2. Calvin and Hobbs
    3. Cathy
    4. For Better or Worse
    5. Family Circus (Does any one miss Thel's old hair cut?)
    6. Marmaduke (we used to breed Boxers which was the original Dog the cartoon was patterened after, it was later the Great Dane)
    7. Peanuts
    8. Funky Winkerbean
    9. Bloom County - I miss Opus, I even had a stuffed one for my bed when I went to college.

I love Calvin and Hobbs, oh the imagination of a 6 year old.

Does anyone remember, "Gimmie more fish eyes and glue?" The comment resulted in Calvin sitting in the corner repeating, "May I have some more tapioca pudding."

My favorite Calvin and Hobbes strip has to do with Calvin asking Hobbes about why he wears a tail, and then says, "It is kind of like a tie for your butt." He tears me up. [IMG]

It's not in our paper anymore, but I still love the old Beetle Bailey's.
