I don't carry it all the time, but I started one sunday when my printer was down and I needed my outline, lol. The ability to search for texts by keyword on the fly is cool.

Yes I also like to compare the KJV with both the Geneva and the Bishops. Very interesting renderings in some of those older translations

What would really get exciting is to find a
Gothic letter set for my electronic old bibles :)

Ed , the last Geneva printed was in 1644 . Why is the 1599 edition all the rage ? Didn't they update that version somewhat by 1644 ?

If you are getting the recent Hendrickson release,
then it is the Geneva Bible, 1560 Edition.
You will need magnifing glasses around.

In Acts 20:9 the electronic Geneva Bible, 1599 Edition
    says:

And there sate in a windowe a certaine yong man,
named Eutychus, fallen into a dead sleepe:
and as Paul was long preaching,
hee ouercome with sleepe, fell downe from the thirde loft,
    and was taken vp dead.

'long' in the Geneva 1560 Edition looks like 'log',
but there is a smudge over the 'o'.
It might be an 'n', but I can't tell, even at magnification.

It was cute at first, Eutychus was sawing the
log that Paul was preaching (all puns intended ;) )

I'm working on a 'comma theory'.
The Geneva 1599 Edition had a better choice
    of commas (,) over semi-colons (;).

Four versions is usually the more common arrangement for Parallel Bibles.
Sometimes there are Parallel Bibles with just two versions. I have a KJV/NKJV Parallel Bible.

There have been Parallel Bibles [at least for the New Testament] that had as many as eight versions. The 1960's NEW TESTAMENT OCTAPLA has eight versions: Tyndale's, 1540 Great, 1560 Geneva, 1602 Bishops', 1582 Rheims, KJV [1873 Cambridge edition], 1901 ASV, and RSV. The 1997 CONTEMPORARY PARALLEL NEW TESTAMENT also had eight translations: KJV, NASB, New Century Version, Contemporary English Version, NIV, New Living Translation, NKJV, and The Message.

My ideal parallel would be something like this:
    KJV
    NKJV
    ESV
    HCSB
    Amplified
    NIV
    NASB

The 1599 edition of the Geneva Bible is probably the one reprinted the most often perhaps because more copies of that edition seem to have survived. Some of the surviving copies of the 1599 Geneva Bible do not include the Apocrypha, which may be another reason it is the edition that is sometimes reprinted. Actually some of the editions of the Geneva Bible printed with a title page dated 1599 are said to have been printed after that date. They were said to be printed with that incorrect date or title page in order to try to keep those who obtained them from getting in trouble with Archbishop Laud.

The 1599 edition of the Geneva Bible is a revision or different edition than the 1560 edition [at least for the N. T.]. Laurence Tomson (1539-1608) is said to be responsible for editing or translating the 1576 edition of the N. T. that was published in some later Geneva Bibles such as the 1599 edition.

According to what I have read, the only difference in any later editions of the Geneva Bible was in the marginal notes. Some Geneva Bibles printed in the 1600's were made to have the marginal notes of Franciscus Junius on the book of Revelation instead of those prepared by Laurence Tomson that were based on Theodore Beza's 1574 Latin Bible with notes.

I own a NLT (1st edition), NASB, NIV and KJV parallel Bible, but my ideal would be NLTse, HCSB, NASB, ESV.

I'll be getting my own 1560 Geneva Bible soon.

Hey Rippon, I think my choices are okay considering I'm not a calvinist. I like em as a blend because they flesh each other out.

Oh and by the way if you don't own a 1611KJV you need to get one just to see what the KJVO only crowd is crowing about. Only thing is most of them would never recognize it .

This is the very volume I am reading from daily. I have found it very interesting to read them side-by-side.

And I own the (now out-of-print) PRECISE PARALLE NEW TESTAMENT, also edited by Kohlenberger with --

    Rheims
    New American Bible (Catholic)
    New International Version
    New American Standard
    New Revised Standard Version
    Greek
    King James Version
    Amplified Version
