You didn't disprove my rhetoric. A poster said "There is only one race-- human." So racism is a meaningless term unless you are talking about non-humans, if the poster's point is valid.

All dogs come from a single ancestor but there are many breeds of dog.

Is the results of this poll representative of this list and of Baptist Churches and of your home church?

It is representative of my home church. There is a large "diverse" Baptist church a couple of blocks away but I like meeting with a bunch of old Dutch people and a civilized worship service that doesn't require hearing protection.

The church I attend now has a greater mix of races than this poll, although there are quite a few whites there.

A church I attend while at work has all whites attending except for the ones that go from where I work. I hate it.

The poll is not representative of my church, but then again, our area is probably not representative of most of the country.

A long while ago I heard Tony Evans preach a sermon in which he suggested that Noah's sons were each a different color based on their names. If I recall correctly he suggested that, at that time before the flood and the Tower of Babel, the gene pool was very diverse rather than spread out as it is today amongst the various races. As a result, a couple never knew what color their baby might be or what other characteristics might be displayed. A couple may very well have three babies, each with a different skin color. I've never been able to confirm Dr. Evan's suggestion. It makes sense but I'd like to be able to verify it before repeating it as the truth.

Sag, it was very common teaching that the three sons of Noah, Ham, Shem and Japeth, were the origin of the races of the world. Ham was the father of the slave and coloured nations and hence segregation was taught in seminaries right up into the 50's and even 60's.

South Africa's basis for its segregation until the Dutch church denied its truth.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Also the US basis for segregation until 1964. Sunday mornings are still the most segregated hours of the week.

Off hand, during Lincoln's War the Baptist Church was the only denomination that split because of the war and segregation was at least half the reason of the split.

Not totally correct. The SBC was organized in 1845 - a full 15 years before the War of Northern Aggression. In addition, the Medthodist Episcopal church, South; split from their Northern bretheren also in 1845.

There might be more, but ...

I burn in the sun so I guess that makes me whiter than most in terms of skin-type. Ethnically, I'm a complete mongrel: part-British, part-Italian, part-Greek, part-Dutch, part-French, part-Swedish...in the main!

I grew up in a family that all had dark olive skin so they glowed yellow in the winter & gradually turned very dark in the summer. Except for me. Born with blond hair & light skin that turns pink in the sun, I was called the little Polock & later when I grew up, well you can probably guess....nice huh

As an American, I can claim Welsh, Slovak & Italian ancestors. Go to any part of old industrial mining Pennsylvania & there are muts like me all over the place.

I am a mix of the British Isles (mostly Scottish, but Irish, English, and Welsh, too) with a little drop of German, Swedish, and American Indian (Cherokee) as well.
