Well I know above is a joke and that it is funny, but I think there is also something real behind that I do not really understand, but at the same time I am very curious.

So, I have a few questions:

    1. Why is Calvinism so tempting?

    2. Why is it common to equal calvinism with the dark side?

    3. What are the horrible consequences of accepting calvinism?

Note that I mean this message to be friendly and it commes out of lack of knowledge.

    Best Regards

    "Luke" (Psalm 95)

    How can you be?
Do you believe some are saved by God;s sovereign decree while others are saved by their own choice?
It is one or the other.
I realize you might be somewhere in between arminianism and Calvinism in areas like OSAS etc but you are one way or the other on this. Either that or you don't know what you believe.

Does not the following verse settle the issue.

Joh 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Nobody on their own cares for or desires anything of Jesus (it is foolishness to them). God chose those who would be saved form the beginning of the world. At some point in their lives that God chooses, those predestined for salvation are drawn to Jesus by the Father.

    Blessings.

I think it does but those of the general baptist persuasion would believe that God must draw but that He does draw and then man can resist the drawing or accept the drawing.

Even though I agree with you, I intended this to be a thread to help out with other threads, not a thread to hash out the doctrine here.

So with this scripure I believe in. What Do I fall under. @ pe 3:9 The lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but longsuffering to us-ward, not WILLING THAT ANY SHOULD PERISH, BUT ALL COME TO REPENTANCE.

The phrase "God;s sovereign decree" can not be found in the Bible (not mine anyway). I suspect it can be found in the theology books written by men. I like the Bible assessment :

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

This sounds better to me than "God;s sovereign decree" because I can identify with John 1:12.

I can also identify with the following passage:

    John 11
25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

One day I was reading this passage and it was if Jesus was there in the room with me asking me this question. I quite all my struggle and disbelief and said exactly what Martha said "yeah Lord".

Did I choose at that point? I don't know.

So as far as I am concerned this puts me somewhere in the middle.

I am an Anglo-Catholic Baptist, so called by my enemies, but believe I am true to New Testament and historical definitions. We just happen to be called Baptists, just as Christians were labelled by what they did and not by their own declaration in the beginning.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Oh, I am Calvinist to the core and have been all my new born life.

Wow. 19 people of particular baptist belief.
    I am amazed and pleased.
I am also pleased that 12 of the general types were willing to vote one way or the other.

That's a rather nasty thing to say, even in jest.

Thankfully, I am Canadian and NOT American.

    Cheers,

Your beef is with an individual, not a nation. I don't believe America did anything to you.

    I thought so as well.
It would be a good idea to explain what you mean a little more.

Let's be careful to be in good taste, folks. "Jestings that are not convenient" comes to mind.

    By the way, Particular.
