    This may have been asked before on the board, but I'm new. Just wondering what everyone's favorite hymn is.

    Mine is "Victory in Jesus". Of course, like most Baptists I know, "Amazing Grace" is a very close second. It's also hard to beat "In the Garden."

    "Victory in Jesus" is mine. However, there is a song that is not in most songbooks, but we sing it often in our church and it really speaks to me. It is "I don't know about Tomorrow"

    "It is Well With my Soul" - especially this line -"My sin, O the bliss of this glorious thought. My sin, not in part, but the whole, is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more. Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord, O my soul"

    What wonderous love is this.
    (Got to have the "when I was sinking down" verse in it)

    It varies, but It is well with my soul is probably on top. I also like Dwelling in Beaulah Land a whole bunch, and unfortunately you do not hear about that song very often. I can't find it anywhere on CD.

    Aloha!

    so many `favourites ` but this is a particular favourite......

    One day when heaven was filled with His praises,
    One day when sin was as black as could be,
    Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin,
    Dwelt among men, my Example is He!

    Refrain

    Living, He loved me; dying, He saved me;
    Buried He carried my sins far away;
    Rising, He justified freely forever;
    One day He’s coming—O glorious day!

    especially the chorus/refrain

    This was sung when I was baptised

    Arise My Soul Arise

    Arise, my soul, arise; shake off thy guilty fears;
    The bleeding sacrifice in my behalf appears:
    Before the throne my surety stands,
    Before the throne my surety stands,
    My name is written on His hands.

    He ever lives above, for me to intercede;
    His all redeeming love, His precious blood, to plead:
    His blood atoned for all our race,
    His blood atoned for all our race,
    And sprinkles now the throne of grace.

    Five bleeding wounds He bears; received on Calvary;
    They pour effectual prayers; they strongly plead for me:
    “Forgive him, O forgive,” they cry,
    “Forgive him, O forgive,” they cry,
    “Nor let that ransomed sinner die!”

    The Father hears Him pray, His dear anointed One;
    He cannot turn away, the presence of His Son;
    His Spirit answers to the blood,
    His Spirit answers to the blood,
    And tells me I am born of God.

    My God is reconciled; His pardoning voice I hear;
    He owns me for His child; I can no longer fear:
    With confidence I now draw nigh,
    With confidence I now draw nigh,
    And “Father, Abba, Father,” cry.

    So hard to choose! Here's one of my favorites:

    There is a fountain filled with blood

    There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel’s veins;
    And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.
    Lose all their guilty stains, lose all their guilty stains;
    And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.

    Since Gwyneth stole mine, I'd have to pick "Christ the Lord is Risen Today", "There's a Song in the Air" or maybe "Trust and Obey".

    Odd that two of my favorites have almost identical names (but not alike at all)

    "How Can It Be?" and "And Can It Be?"

    And can it be that I should gain
    An interest in the Savior’s blood?
    Died He for me, who caused His pain—
    For me, who Him to death pursued?
    Amazing love! How can it be,
    That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

    ’Tis mystery all: th’Immortal dies:
    Who can explore His strange design?
    In vain the firstborn seraph tries
    To sound the depths of love divine.
    ’Tis mercy all! Let earth adore,
    Let angel minds inquire no more.

    He left His Father’s throne above
    So free, so infinite His grace—
    Emptied Himself of all but love,
    And bled for Adam’s helpless race:
    ’Tis mercy all, immense and free,
    For O my God, it found out me!

    Long my imprisoned spirit lay,
    Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
    Thine eye diffused a quickening ray—
    I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
    My chains fell off, my heart was free,
    I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

    Still the small inward voice I hear,
    That whispers all my sins forgiven;
    Still the atoning blood is near,
    That quenched the wrath of hostile Heaven.
    I feel the life His wounds impart;
    I feel the Savior in my heart.

    No condemnation now I dread;
    Jesus, and all in Him, is mine;
    Alive in Him, my living Head,
    And clothed in righteousness divine,
    Bold I approach th’eternal throne,
    And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
