Could it have been in 1652 AD?
I'm sure it was MUCH earlier than that...probably when Bro Claudius of First Baptist Church wanted to spend the church coffers to put up purple drapes and Bro Neronius wanted red. Then Sister Maricella stood up and cried a little and wondered why they couldn't just get along. Then Pastor Stephanus said they should take a vote and when the red drapes people didn't win they stomped out of that business meeting and set up their own church around the corner, calling it New Hope Baptist Church. And the rest is history.
I would put it earlier, 1611-12, when Thomas Helwys led a small group out John Smyth's church over several doctrinal disagreements.
