What, if anything, do you do when a preacher makes an obvious mistake. This situation happened when a Deacon filled in for our usual Pastor. He said God cannot be present in the same place as sin, that God cannot even look upon sin. Well! That's bad news for all of us, since we all sin, some of us daily, even hourly, even those born again. God would HAVE to see and observe sin, since He knows what's in our hearts. He would see sin happening, even if He is offended by it. I understand this deacon was trying to get someone unsaved to come forward, but is it okay to use a sloppy message to do so, to scare them into coming forward? I think not! BTW, no one came forward that day. That is a tragedy, IMO.

    love,

Hard to say without hearing the actual message or the text he was using. He could have meant one can't be filled with sin and righteousness at the same time. Good will not co-exist with evil.

If it were I, I enjoy people coming for clarification. It at least let's me know they were listening.

I always listen with ears plealed, I know so little still. But this message made me squirm a little...

You do what the Bereans did in Acts 17:11 - These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. (KJV)

If you would have done this, you would have found that your deacon was right. God turned His back on His Son because He cannot look upon sin. When He looks at you and me as His children, He doesn't see our sin; He sees us clothed in the righteousness of Christ.

I agree with LeBuick.. I absolutely love it when people question me...
As I said in another thread, on Sunday Evenings we have Bible Study.. right now we are working through Proverbs, but sometimes we just have question and answer nights.. and sometimes people will ask me about the morning sermon...

I LOVE IT<3... Ask him what he meant. You might learn something you didn't know.

Having said that, I also agree that God cannot look at sin...
When He sees a Christian, he sees Christ's righteousness on us...

But ask him what he meant... and you will know.

What do you do if your pastor consistently mispronounces Deuteronomy as Deuteromony?

Theres just nothing like back p.. er seat drivers/preachers.
Can the congregation know what we have studied or prayed over?
With that said, I do not mind that a question is asked about how I've arrived at a certain point either.

Yes they do need our prayers. Sometimes I think we forget they get tired and lonely and have problems just like the rest of us. They have a very hard job and need encouragement and love.

    I made a mistake once. I thought I was wrong but I wasn't.

Mistakes? They are only problematic when you do not learn from them. I have learned much over the years from seasoned saints who took the time to question. I have also learned that there are a few who look for nothing but a reason to find fault in their pastor. Embrace the former and encourage the latter to become Methodists.

Please not that my post was "moved". I don't understand why, but, I will post my original post on this thread.

Great article about preachers and what they do when the err........I don't know how my fellow brothers in ministry work their ego, but, I learned a long, long time ago, it is far much easier to "eat spiritual crow" than argue till my lips turn blue.

I don't have an ego about right and wrong. Many times my congregation would approach me on something I did wrong, and I showed them that I was not PERFECT, but, FORGIVEN like them, and prone to fumbling, falling, and making mistakes .

    I hope this helps,

    Shalom,

    Pastor Paul
