Christians of today no longer pay pew rent as some of our ancestors did.(I'll have to check.Maybe Baptists never did.)But most of us are creatures of habit. This question is addressed to the non-Pastors here.Where do you usually/always sit in the sanctuary?I invariably sit in the front row; extreme right. How about you?

Are you miffed when other folks "take your spot"?I'm not. It's a rare person who wants to sit in the front.Someone asked me today :"Doesn't your front row seat crane your neck?" And I replied that I wasn't watching a movie screen!

I know someone wiseguy/gal will say that you're seated in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.AMEN to that! I'm just asking about your seating location within your local church.

I sit at what I call 2nd row right side, my wife calls it the front row, it is the first row that has a row in head of it. Why? I have found in most churches it is one of the last if not the last row to fill up.
I spend about half of my time going to other churches and I'm still able to sit in the same row and most of the time on the right side.
No, it does not bother me if I have to sit somewhere else.

Sunday morning, right section (facing pulpit), (organ side), fourth row,on the right aisle.

Sunday and Wednesday evening. Middle section, fourth row, on the left aisle.

My father-in-law, Sunday morning and evening, left section, fourth row, middle of the row.
Sunday evening, back row, left side, middle section.

There are two places I sit depending on what's going on. I just about always start out in the sound booth running the computer for the projector. If there are notes for the pastor and/or an ending song, I stay in the sound booth throughout the entire service. But more than 1/2 the time we don't have notes or an ending song so when the sermon begins, I shut down the projector and go up to sit up front. We have 4 sections across the sanctuary and I will sit in the second section from the left (facing the stage), 3rd row back on the very left side of the section. My kids sit there and then DH joins them after worship is finished (he's the worship pastor) and then I'll come over when I'm done. I don't mind if others sit there because I've sat all over the church. :)

Back center. Many years ago in high school this very subject became entertainment for a group of very bored 14 year old boys. We would memorize where the older crowd sat every Sunday. We would pick out our victim for the week, enter the auditorium early, and all sit right in their pew. Of course, the reward or amusement was to watch the looks you would get when the couple entered the room. Pricelss as the commercial says.

I sit in one of two places, back right so it is easy to take my daughter out, or way in the back there is a couch where some of the parents with small kids will sit.

I usually prefer the third row back from the front. Don't ask me why since I'm not sure. Maybe it's because of the number 3 in the Bible meaning perfection. It just seems like the perfect distance from the pulpit. I'm not way in the back where I don't care to be, but I'm not right up in the front row. Yes, I don't like it when people take "my" seat".

It depends on the church. In the first one I went to today, I sat on a couch in the corner. I always sit there with the kids. In the second church I sat on a bed in the adjoining room. I always sit there with the kids.

If someone were in either of those places when I arrived, I'd choose another couch or bed or sit on the floor.

In many of the other churches, I sit on the floor---and hopefully not right up by the woodstove!!!

I tend to sit about 2/3d's of the way back for a couple of reasons, namely:
    1) That's where most of the members of my cell group tend to sit there, and
    2) That seems to be where the auditorium's temperature is about right for me. Our auditorium has a downward sloping floor. This improves the acoustics, but since the HVAC ducts are in the ceiling, if I sit too close to the front, it's just a little too cold. If I sit too far to the back, it's too hot.

With the recent uniting of two local fellowships into one that we've experienced here, more people are now attending in our auditorium. So far, I haven't seen any "knock-down/drag-outs" over having to fit more people in our auditorium than what folks have been used to (i.e., "You've got MY spot!!").

I'm just thankful that we've got these new folks with us!:godisgood:

Usually I'm in the Pastor's chair and my wife is in the second pew from the front, right side.

I like to get to know where everyone sits. Once I've determined that I go and deliberately sit in their place. For some reason I'm not very well liked in the church.

I don't have my own seat. I like to sit somewhere on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd row, depending on the amount of open seats. I have always like to sit near the front, even in class in school. I'm a nerd I guess.
I like to sit in different spots so I can meet people that I might not meet if I sat in the same seat all the time.

Depends on what I have going on. Often I sit in the back in the balcony so I can slip out undetected to fulfill ministry requirements.

Other times, when our weeks are less busy, I sit in a variety of locations to meet new people. But usually on the left side of the church to fulfill an ongoing inside joke with the senior pastor. :D

It is funny to see people who have specific places to sit and have their routines interrupted by guests and attenders. Our church is pretty great about and people are happy to try to new seating position.

    It depends on several factors:

    1. If I am a greeter that week, I sit in the very back row, near the sanctuary entrance, so I can perform my greeter duties as needed.

    2. Other weeks, I usually sit near the back, because I also have one of the "contact numbers" cell phones, which the nursery workers can call if they need help.

    3. If I am a counter AND there is a business meeting or other "after morning worship" activity, I need to get out early, when the offering is taken. Thus, I sit near the back. Most weeks, the counting gets done AFTER worship ends.

    4. If I am late getting out of my Sunday School class (I teach 1st and 2nd graders), I will usually sit near the back so as not to disturb anybody. Usually, I get into church during the announcements, and simply join my dear wife, wherever she is, which by mutual choice is usually near the back.

We have several people who have "their seats", but so far nobody has tried to upset that, or to complain if it gets upset! We love each other and the Lord to fret about such petty things. :tongue3:

I like to sit close to the front due to my bad eye sight. Usually 2 or 3 rows from the pulpit toward the outside. I admit it does bother me if I wind up in the back when someone sits where I usually do, but I won't let them know that.

The worst place to sit is on the podium behind the preacher or in the choir loft.

I used to sit at the top of the stadium seating, right at the end of the aisle. But I am not inconspicuous any more. So, I sit down at the front and find it easy in easy out when I am working in the Greenhouse or the Cafe.

As a pastor I am always up front.. somewhere..

The church I pastor are funny people.. There are a few that sit in the same places each week.. but there are quite a few that sit in different pews each week... At one point I think they were doing it to confuse me!!!

I try to sit behind women with large hats. That way the preacher doesn't see me sleeping through the sermon.

J/K... My brother said that some years ago...
