Grace is a bit of a four letter word there and, yes, they are extremely legalistic.

Mike Mck: " ... they called me a heretic and ran me off
for saying I liked contemporary music."

    Now that is important :D
about as important as the near church
    splitter where i was:
    the color of the carpet
(carpet should be red to remind us of the
shed blood of Jesus, shed for our salvation)
(the carpet should be purple to remind
us of the royality of our blessed Lord
    and Savior: Messiah Iesus*)

*Sorry, i've been reading the REAL King James Version
made in 1611 and that is how Jesus was written there.

Yeah, it was pretty funny. They agreed with me on so many doctrinal issues but then they threw out for something so trivial.

One of the funny things about that site is that they tell you they don't want any discussion of rock or Christian rock music but there are countless threads against it.

We chose gray because dirt doesn't show up as much.

Not all of us can read Jacobean English, Mr. Ed.

I LIKED the poll. I was a little disappointed that more don't see the Graham-like error of the altar call sin-drome, but you will all learn some day.

Now, every head bowed, every eye closed. No one looking around; this is just between you and God (and a select bunch of my henchmen who will be sureptitiously watching).

I SEE THAT HAND. Is there another? Ah, yes, all over the BaptistBoard I see hands typing away.

Now, if God REALLY moved you and you weren't just lying when you raised your hand, you need to come forward. That's right. Come right now, on the first verse.

We will only sing 26 more verses and cajole and manipulate you until GOD moves your heart.

Not coming yet? There was this little girl in the torn yellow dress . . .

it looks like about 35% have made a wise choice

and dr bob that altar call is right on the money

i would love to see just one time that a preacher when time to give an altar call after preaching a good gospel message would just implore
those who have heard the message to believe in Christ trusting on Him and His work on the cross for the payment of sin
and better yet, they do not even need to leave thier seat

i wonder how many would feel cheated?

Alter calls? Is that when they have to let an inch out on my suit since I ate too much at the last pot luck? [IMG]

No, "alter" call is when you renew your
vows to God before the accountability group
of the local church. Generally that is
done with repentance and at an altar.
    Ed notes "repentance"
doesn't get much press here on this board.

Can we all see that there are extremes on both sides of this issue. Of course the response is to Christ (or at least should be). Of course there are those who manipulate people to get a response that makes their ministry somehow look better (as it should not be). But is there really anything wrong with giving a person the opportunity to respond and share what the Lord has laid on their heart in the safety of the Church body? Is there anything wrong with giving time for people to express their desire to be accountable to the Church body? Is there anything wrong with the Church body sharing in the joy of what God is doing in the life of a part of the body?

I think we need to be careful not to condemn everything because of some of the abuses we have seen.

Are not ALL public altar calls an "abuse" since they are the fruit of ungodly modern theology? I've heard that preached (with no invitation afterward or I'da gone forward!!)

We have altar call at morning, night, and Wednesday night services. It is for whatever anyone wants to do with it, pray, praise, repent, whatever is on one's mind. We don't ask anyone to share with the church body unless they really want to. I think whatever it is should be between the person and the Lord.

    1. It is not my fault some prefer to
call the frunt of a church the "altar".
    2. You introduced the term "altar" in
the lead-in post of this thread.

    Actually i discern you
were called here by God to tell us about
and remind us of Biblical repentance.
My calling is to correct spelling errors.

actually what i discern is that you will jump into a thread and try to discredit the poll and it seems you are offended by my stand against liberalism, or is it that you are just offended by my spelling and grammar mistakes?

    Your discernment is in error,
i am not offended. All i said was that
your questions should have the answers:

    1. Yes
    2. No
    3. other

    It is no big thing.
