The wicked are those who do not accept Jesus As Lord and do not accept Gods Gift of Grace without combining their own man made rules to it.

They are saved but in a constant "argumentative battle with God about His Reality. His Sovereignty.

Would you call the people who are unaware of God in turmoil or anguish about their eternal existence.?

    No. they are unaware.

Its people who ARE taught of these things who are in anguish..Gods own Children..
    well, the disobedient ones.

The "Good News" Is The End Of The Argumentative State. Its the acceptance of The Free Gift of Grace
    or...saying it another way..

    the end of the LAW....

Well, I have no scriptural basis for it, but I think Hell is somewhere just a little west of Charlotte, NC.

May I ask what you think that is?

I don't think so either. Take away hell (lake of fire) and really you don't need a good news message because either everyone is saved or the ones who are not cease to be and will not know the difference, because they no longer exists. Thus, if there is good news, there is bad news. And BTW, the Truth of the Gospel to me is Jesus Christ!

I don't think so. God wants willful responses, not scared responses. That is why I don't try to 'scare' people into heaven, but I do tell them there is a consequence if they reject Christ.

I would agree. But what do you think death is? (I am not being funny, I really want to know what you think)

Again I would ask that you explain how you see their punishment.

Me too! :D I don't live everyday in fear of hell because I am not going there! Once you have salvation you do not have the fear of hell anyway, so a believer shouldn't be serving God out of fear, but love, because He first loved them. However, I deserve it, and that just floors me as to why God would offer salvation to a wretch like me. My love only grows deeper and deeper for Him everyday.

Man sinned so much that God sent a flood and destroyed all life on this planet. The wickedness and sinfulness of Sodom and Gomorrah was so great that God rained fire and brimstone down on the twin cities and destroyed them.

Israel sinned by worshipping a golden calf and thousands died for this sin. Nadab and Abihu offered strange fire and fire came from the Lord and destroyed them both.

Korah and his bunch rebelled and an earthquake swallowed thousands of Jews. Again they murmured and complained and poisonous vipers destroyed thousands until Moses erected the serpent in the wilderness.

God ordered King Saul to totally destroy the Amalekites. The women, children, old people.
    He wanted them totally annihilated.

This is the God of the universe. The same God who sent his son to die for our sins but this God has demonstrated above that he is a God of wrath and judgement.

Does not the Bible say the beginning of wisdom is having Fear of God. What did Jesus say? Don't fear those who can destroy your body but FEAR HIM who can destroy both soul and body in Hell.
This does not coincide with this doctrine you try to teach of love and mercy. We are told to fear the Lord.

What about Ananias and Sapphira. God judged them for lying to him. They both fell over dead so how can anyone question the validity of Hell?

Jesus is the one who spoke more than anyone about Hell. He came preaching at first. Love your enemy. Turn the other cheek. Then later on he called the Pharisees SERPENTS, BROOD OF VIPERS,
and he took a whip to them in the temple twice.
Yes he was meek and mild but he also is God and is a God that hates sin.

If you want proof of Hell's existence then find the book that has the story by the nurse who sat at Voltaire's bedside. Voltaire the Great French Atheist who tried to destroy the Bible. This is not fiction but fact. THe woman said as he lay dying he sat up in bed and screamed, "Oh Nazarene you have won. Please save me from the terrible flames and these terrible creatures that torment me so." She wrote of the terrible things she heard that day Voltaire describe. She refused to ever sit beside a dying atheist again.

This is history that happened. It is not a fairy tale that someone concocted to scare people.
    What Jesus said is reality.

Try examining all those statements of Jesus...

    There Parables..allegories..figurative statements.
paralleling SPIRITUAL TRUTHS in a SPIRITUAL EXISTENCE with ideas, thought and definitions referring from a physical world..and attempting to decribe an undescribable spiritual world....were you are formless and invisible...

Can you see you spirit now ?....

You are in a State of Heaven or Hell now..Its your Choice. so Please dont let anthropomorphic statements confuse your understanding.

Heaven and Hell are Non-Physical, Invisible and Formless.

So stop looking at revelations and its visions as literal truths..its John figurative descriptions of God Providing a Dream or "Vision" to Him...
    He wasnt there physically....

Just as in Jesus Parables.....its figurative and symbolic..

    And Can I Strongly Repeat...
    Please provide A Credible Witness

try not to get salvation of the spirit and salvation of the soul mixed up here..notice your parable statement..destruction of BODY and SOUL.

Hell is a spiritual existence...not a physical one.
so we can derive that the parable was concerned with the PHYSICAL BODY ALSO...hhmmm.

Jesus continually spoke of eternal Life as being limited in our Linear time.He spoke of spiritual Life. We are the ones that take those statements out of context. We are to Exist from age to age. a Specific beginning to each and a specific end..one age ends, another begins.
Jesus speaks of a Quality of spiritual Life. "Eternal" as in Quality of Gods ZOA Life..Not eternal as in forever and ever human Bios Life.

Thats the difference that he spoke of...Live by the Law..you cant Get the ZOA life of God..
Accept (Him) Grace Freely without adding your own concepts and ideas and Yes, You will have Gods Zoa Life..A Higher Standard or quality than Bios Life.
A Life of Rest and Not the Argumentative life that You think your right in your methods even above Gods Methods.

Father Forgive them for they Know not what they Do.

As he was on the cross bearing the sin of the world..Sounds Like some of that OT teaching of the high priest Placing one hand on the sacrifice and one hand one the sinner and transferring the punishment to the sacrifice.

Just what did "them" mean ?

You see..One can look at God and see Mercy triumphing over judgement with the final death of GODS LAMB For the Sin of The World..or one can see Gods Wrath NEVER being appeased...

Hence the existence of a "forever" Hell.

I have done some research on the topic of hell, and here, in part, is the information from a post I have in the forums at another web site...

Gehenna, or Hinnom, is a valley south of Jerusalem where the backslidden, idolatrous Jews at certain points in history sacrificed their children by fire to Molech and Baal. This valley later became the "garbage dump" of Jerusalem, and it is said that fires were kept constantly burning for the destruction of the filth that was thrown there. In most of its occurrencess in the NT, Gehenna refers to the place of the lost.

Hades is the Greek word used to denote the unseen place of the dead. All the dead go there. However, there is a separation in that the evil dead are in torment while the righteous dead are not (see Luke 16:19-31).

Sheol is the Greek word for the place of the dead. As with the Greek Hades, all the dead go there. It is the abode of both the righteous and the unrighteous dead (Psalms 9:17; 16:10; 30:3; 31:17 are just a few references). Sheol is described as dark (Job 10:21-22), deep (Job 11:8), and barred (Job 17:16). The dead also go down to it (Numbers 16:30, 33; Ezekiel 31:15-17).

Jesus went to the grave, that is, the abode of the dead. While on the Cross, Jesus promised the penitent thief they would be together in Paradise that very day (Luke 23:43). I have found no evidence to support the theory that Jesus went into the part of Sheol/Hades where the wicked are tormented.

Christ was the first to break the bonds of death and the grave. He rose from the grave. Many think that when Christ conquered the bonds of death and the grave that He led the righteous dead to another place prepared for them. Christ had to be the first to conquer the grave or else His death and resurrection would not have been needed in order for OT saints to be rewarded. God had something better in mind for them (and for us), so the righteous dead were held until Christ came to set them free (Psalms 68:18 and Ephesians 4:7-10).

Many of today's fundamentalist Christian churches teach that Paradise is "up" buth they can't say exactly where it is. The fact that Jesus ascended when He left the earth (Luke 24:50-53; Acts 1:9-11) gives credence to this idea. In John 6:62 Jesus is spoken of as ascending. Romans 10:6 speaks of ascending into heaven. 2 Corinthians 12:4 speaks of being caught up to paradise. And in 2 Corinthians 5:6-9 Paul speaks of being "well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:8 NKJV), indicating that, when we die in Christ, we go to be with Him.

Many think that Christ gave a second chance to those who were lost and in the grave, but I find no evidence that this is so. Look at the story of Lazarus and the rich man once again (Luke 16:19-31). Did this event actually occur? I don't know. But whether Lazarus and the rich man were real people or not doesn't really matter. What does matter is the truth that Jesus taught through this parable or story. Once we have passed from this life into eternity there is absolutely NO WAY to go from one place to the other. If we could go from one place to the other, everyone who ends up in torment would elect to go away from that terrible place. Everyone. Period. And if this were an option, it would mean that no one would receive their "just deserts" after death. It would make Christ's death and resurrection of absolutely no consequence. And since there is no way for us to go from one place to the other after we die, the ideas of purgatory and praying the dead "out of hell" are soundly disproven.

There will be an eternal "lake of fire" created at a later date. The grave (Sheol/Hades) will give up its dead so that they may face the Great White Throne Judgment at the end of the world. Those whose names are not written in "the Lamb's Book of Life" will be sentenced to an eternity of fire and torment along with Satan and the fallen angels (Revelation 20:11-15). This place does not exist yet, but its permanence and the scope of its torment are future reality.

Yes, there is a place where the dead go. But the place of the dead is not nearly as terrible as the lake of fire which will later be created. I pray that we all avoid that place of eternal torment and separation from God.

May God bless us as we seek His truth! And for those who want to treat this subject lightly, I pray God will forgive your irreverence...

    Yours in Christ,
    Keith

Rev 14:10 places the Fire and Brimstone - punishment of the wicked "IN the Presence of the Lamb and of His Saints". Literal and real. Oh and "the Smoke of their TORMENT ascends UP forever".

Matt 10 tells us that God "Destroys BOTH body AND SOUL in hell fire". 28 ""Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

"Destroy both soul and body in hell." Note "soul" here of the eternal spirit, not just life in the body. "Destroy" here is not annihilation, but eternal punishment in Gehenna (the real hell) for which see on Mat_5:22. (Robertson's Word Pictures)

The destruction of Both "body and Soul" in hell - as we see in Matt 10 is a pretty clear concept.

Both are sent to hell - and both are destroyed there.

I don't see the concept of "two souls" in Matt 10. It appears to be "your real soul" that is the subject of the discussion and Christ points out that we should NOT fear those who can only kill the body by contrast to Him who can destroy BOTH body and soul in hell.

And of course there is Rev 14:10 - the torment of the wicked in fire and brimstone takes place "IN the presence of the Lamb and of His saints".

So - That fire and brimstone punishment is real. It is literal.

It is in the real presence of Christ and His saints.

It "destroys BOTH body and soul" according to Christ.

    In Christ,

    Bob

This means your friends and loved ones that did not accept Christ and did not inherit eternal life - will be tormented in "your presence" since you will be in the presence of Christ - and they are tormented "in the Presence of the Lamb AND of His saints" Rev 14:10.

You will be there for all of it.

And God will "destroy both body and soul in hell" according to Matt 10.

So there you are with a front row ring-side seat - and there they are - your precious friends and loved ones - undergoing that torment IN your presence.

This is no cold aloof indifferent attitude taken toward God's suffering creation. The saints are right there - and so is the Lamb.

"As I live says the Lord - I take NO pleasure in the death of the wicked".

"God is not willing for ANY to perish but for ALL to come to repentance".

There is no rejoicing at the suffering and torment of your friends and loved ones in the fires of hell's fire and brimstone.

    In Christ,

    Bob

doesnt Mat 5 22 speak of Judging anyone with the attitude of final condemnation..

placing someone in a state where there is no hope of change or rescue ?

Playing their own "brand" of God ?

The "Real" God Says that doing such Judging places one in the forefront of "instant" Judgement themselves.

that would be administering ones own brand of law on another....

the Hell fire spoken of is placing oneself under your own brand of carnal Law. being in direct opposition with God (while your still alive).

we dont have that right of determining Final Condemnation on anyone. God does...He's Lord.

and still the bible expresses that you shall remain in that state until you change your opinion on judging others with the attitude or capability of determining final condemnation...
in your own private little prison called "hell"

Human reasoning and rationalization does not negate the truth of the Word of God. In a previous post Keith laid all the relevant Scripture out for you. Your argument is with the Scriptures and with God. Because a doctrine of the Bible is distasteful or incomprehensible, does not mean that we should disbelieve it for that reason.
Remember that "death" and "hell" shall be cast into the Lake of fire. Before Hell is cast into the lake of fire the inhabitants thereof stand before God to receive their final sentence. They have hardly been annihilated. And as verse 15 of Rev.20 implies, like verse 10 says: they shall be tormented day and night forever and ever. There is no annihiliation.

With that in mind, there must also come a time when the fire goes out, and those in it are totally consumed. Otherwise how could this verse be true?

Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

I know I will be crying when I see people I knew burning.

Neal, Sorry it took so long to respond, it's been a busy day. I have numbered your q's and my a's.

    1. May I ask what you think that is?

3.I don't think so. God wants willful responses, not scared responses. That is why I don't try to 'scare' people into heaven, but I do tell them there is a consequence if they reject Christ.

    4. I would agree. But what do you think death is? (I am not being funny, I really want to know what you think)

see 1.Again I would ask that you explain how you see their punishment.

5.Me too! :D I don't live everyday in fear of hell because I am not going there! Once you have salvation you do not have the fear of hell anyway, so a believer shouldn't be serving God out of fear, but love, because He first loved them. Neal
    </font>[/QUOTE]1. Death

    2. Jesus died to save us from the punishment for sin. It kind of cheapens it when you put it that way (I don't mean that rudely). There is bad news in the idea that the punishment is death. If you are dead, you do not get to spend eternity with Jesus, you do not get eternal life and immortality and you don't get to see the New Heaven and the New Earth and all the other great stuff that we get to look forward to. The idea that we could be excluded from ALL that is bad enough news to me!

    3. Right! But by telling someone that the consequence is to be tortured and burned forever through ceasless ages IS scaring them.

    4. Ok, I am going to try to answer this as simply as possible, to avoid confusion. The first death (we agree there are 2 right?) is the death that all men are appointed to have, some have avoided it, Elijah, etc., but all are appointed to this death. The substance of that death is that the 'dust returns to the earth where it came from and the spirit returns to God who gave it' and then the 'soul' sleeps in the grave until the resurrection. OK, now the second death will only occur to the wicked. Those who die in Christ will be raised with NEW immortal bodies at the resurrection, but the wicked when they are raised, they WILL not get immortal bodies. I think it will look like the Thriller video on that day. [IMG] Then the judgement will take place and those resurrected wicked will be cast alive into the Lake of Fire where they will experience the second death. This death, is the same as their first death. They do not think, they do not feel, they do not know anything. Even their 'thoughts perish'. This is commonly referred to as the annhiliation of the wicked. They are 'burned up', utterly consumed, destroyed. Like Sodom and Gomorrah. That pretty much sums it up.

    5. AMEN. Although if I die before Jesus comes back (I sure hope I don't) then I will go to hell. (I think the word hell in the Bible was mistranslated and should be grave) Sorry Bible College humor. [IMG]

Hope that answered your questions. Please don't pelt me with olives.

    God Bless.

P.S. It took all that was in me to bash that out, and I just don't have anything left in me. All the places where I have '' quotes, that is actually references to scripture, and if you want I can provide you with the references tomorrow.
[IMG] Just tell me if you want, and I look them up and let you know. Take Care.

Let me just step back in and pose a question. If this has already been brought up - sorry.

To those who have said that they don't think that God would have anyone put in Hell, could you please explain to me Revelation 20:14-15?

Now, if this was a disagreement on what a type represents or whether Judas went to Hell, I could understand...but to say that people won't go to Hell, is flat out ignorance. (the non-insulting kind [IMG] ) The Bible says with such plainness thatthose who do not accept Christ will go to Hell. "Lest a man be born again he shall NOT see the kingdom of God." Folks, it doesn't get much plainer.

Oh yeah. To those who may be skeptical about the sounds from Hell. I can testify that it's real. A preacher by the name of Carl Partain (who use to sing with a great, Holy Ghost led group called The Rowlands) came to my church and preached on Hell. He played the audio for us. He got the tape from a preacher in Carolina, who got it from the nephew of Dr. Azzacove who was so disturbed by what was found that he locked his findings in his vault and there it stayed until it's death. I can get a copy of the tape *snaps* like that, from Bro. Carl.

You know, after I read the site on hell, I got to thinking a bit about all the things I have read in the last two years.

Some people on this board will get excited about this tape of sounds from hell, yet they would not get excited about other equally verifiable miracles, such as the spinning sun seen by 70,000 people, including skeptics and agnostics from the media, at Fatima.

Every Easter in Jerusalem there is the miracle of Holy Fire which is only given to the Orthodox patriarch of Jerusalem. Of course, the Orthodox go to great pains to insist that this miracle proves that they are the "true Church".

There are the miracles of Charismatism of all kinds. There are medically verified Eucharistic miracles. And, of course, the healings of Lourdes.

In other words, why should I place any greater creedence upon this miracle than any of the others which I have just listed?
