This is an aside from the thread itself, but periodically I check my subscribed threads I this one showed that it had a rating of 1 star -- terrible.

The rating system always piques my curiosity. What about this thread deserves a terrible? Everyone is just listing their preferred version. There are a few off-the-cuff comments, but really!

I've seen this on other threads that were really neither here nor there in the great scheme of things. BUT someone cared enough to rank the silly things as terrible. *shaking head*

While the language of the KJV sounds poetic to the modern ear, I have a fondness for the Revised Standard Version. I also remember enjoying "Good News for Modern Man" New Testament as a teen (many years ago). I also liked the line illustrations in it.

This week I ordered (but have not yet received) my first non-KJV bible. Hopefully today I will get my new NASB Large-Print MacArthrur Study Bible. I plan to use both this new Bible and my Scofield KJV when preparing for Bible Study. We will se which one I end up reading.

Now that I actually have my NASB I can say so far I like it. It is easy to read and understand. I also find I like the notes and helps in the Macarthur Study Bible better then the ones in my Scofield.

I am using both my KJV (Scofield) and NASB (Macarthur) to prepare for my Wed. night bible study. When I read the scripture for my lesson I use and will continue to use the KJV. I really do like the way it sounds. I as starting to use the NASB for personal reading.

    1. I use the Dr. Charles Stanley NASB, two-ribbon Bible. But I had to give up references and study notes. It's just a plain text.

    2. It's great for preaching and teaching for me.

Having just emerged from 30 years plus 2 generations of KJV-Onlyism, most of our Bibles are KJV. I'll probably continue to memorize out of the KJV because I already have a lot memorized in that language.

However, my daily Bible reading is now out of an on-line ESV, and my wife and I have an NIV devotional Bible.

    Which translation ?

I have over 20 different versions in my library. I use the Nelson study Bible the most ---BUT I augment many passages with commentaries and Bible dictionaries ,and exhaustive concordances If more study is required I contact friends , use the Internet OR Library, In real sticky situations I use the Archive library at my alma mater Bible college
