List seems reasonable if Alaska is ignored. A big mac index for the lower 48 would be interesting.

The "pain index" thing is silly. Alaska is the worst...simply because they had the brains to cut spending?

The article indicates that Alaska is worse off than California. To come to that conclusion, one must score very low on the brain index.
