The Coast Guard units that have chaplains have Navy chaplains. Since most Coast Guard units are so small, most don't have chaplains.

The Guard used US Public Health Service doctors in areas where doctors were assigned to Coast Guard units. Some places may have used contracted doctors and dentists. Again since most units were so small, medical services were mostly provided by corpsmen. If someone needed serious attention, that individual would be sent to a contracted facility for treatment. Some units also have trained "physician's assistants" to provide services above what a corpsman would be allowed to provide. Those guys were Coast Guard warrant officers.

All other officer jobs were handled by Coast Guard officers.

USN from 1971-1980. I got out in June before the Carter/Reagan election, didn't want to risk 4 more years of that administration!

I left as an STG1 (Surface Sonar Technician, First Class)

After boot camp in lovely Orlando, I graduated from Sonar school in Key West in early '72, then served aboard the USS Brumby, DE-1044 in Charleston, SC from 72-73. Returned to Key West for a year of advanced training.

I was a Plank Owner (put it into commision) of the USS South Carolina, CGN-37 and served there from '74-'78 out of Norfolk, VA.

My last two years were spent at the Naval Underwater Systems Center in New London, CT.
