Thankful, you are one of the sweetest people I have met on this board. No, I can't play anymore, the strokes have affected both sides of my body. My hands are not totally paralyzed, but they are too clumsy to note correctly, and the weakness in my arms makes them feel like they weigh about a ton each, lol. I miss being able to play a lot, but like Brother Jim, I thank the Lord every day for the things I can still do for myself. We never made any tapes or anything, but if we had, I would sure send you one!

"Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience." James 1:3. "Not only so but we glory in tribulations also; knowing that tribulation worketh patience." Rom. 5:3.
These have become two of my favorite verses.

Brother Jim, I used to have a keyboard, a Yamaha x5. I could make entire musical tracks, building up from the drums and bass, adding brass, strings, the whole spectrum. I was becoming somewhat proficient at orchestration when I had the first stroke. I praise the Lord that you are still able to use your keyboard. When I discovered I couldn't play anymore I got very discouraged, and I asked my husband to sell mine, so he did. I still have a piano, but I haven't tried to play for a long time now.

I haven't meant to sound like a whiner here, lol...just wanted to thank you both for your interest and try to answer your questions. I may have some severe physical limitations, but there is gladness in my heart. I'm still here, and can spend time with my family and watch my grandchildren grow...I praise God for the way He blesses me every day.

WonderingOne, You are such a blessing to us all.
You and Jim provide a beautiful, shining example for us. We will try to live up to the example that you are setting for us.

We lift both of you up in prayer daily to our Lord God, that He will bestow blessings on you and that you may continue in this ministry of being an example to us.

(I don't see any whining at all in your posts.)

Let's see....Um, my full name is Abby Louise Allison. I'm fixin to be 15 in two weeks. Um, I live with my grandparents, dad and brother, but soon my dad is moving out when he get's married, and my brother may go with him. My great granny has cancer, and when she get's really bad she may move in with us.
I'm IFB, very conservative, and some people say I'm old fashioned, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
I love people, and love to talk. I try to be friendly and show Christ in every aspect of my life, though I often fail. I love my Lord with all my heart and just want to serve Him, though I fail often, as I've said.
I love to sing. I'm naturaly a very high soprano {LOVE singing the descant part in songs.} but I can also sing 2nd and alto. I also love to harmonize.
I love to play piano, though I play by ear. I can play anything once I've heard it a couple of times, but I like playing it in diffrent keys than what it may be written. Usual C or G, and I like trying to figure out cords. I tried to play guitar, but my hands weren't big enough to reach all the strings. I'm learning to play organ now.
I love reading, mostly Christian fiction, and I also read sermons.
I enjoy listening to southern gospel on the radio or on CD's. I usualy play it every night, hehe, and since I only have partial hearing in one ear {thanks to stupidity at the age of five!} I tend to play things really loud!
I love writting. I do Christian fiction, poems, and prose. All of it Christ based. I don't know that I'm that good, but my english teacher and people at church seem to like it ok.
I like to sketch a little. I've done some pictures for church members, and I painted somehting once for a teacher.
I enjoy doing anything I can around church, and for me that covers alot!
I can't stand my temper {hehe, when I get mad, I then get mad at myself for getting mad!} and I REALLY can't stand someone to take God's name in vain. That REALLY gets a rise out of me!
I tend to cry easily, and some people say I'm too sensitive, but others say I'm tender hearted. All I know is I have enough tears for three people!
I am trying to learn Spanish fluantly, and I'm doing ok, I guess. I wish I were learning faster, but I guess as they say, Rome wasn't built in a day. The reason I'm learning it is because I want to be able to wittness to the Spanish in my area.
um, let's see...I love being at church. I go to other revivals in my area a lot. I love good preaching, even if I do get "my toes stepped on" a little, but that's good. Then I can fix what's lacking.
My goals for life are to finish Highschool, go on to Bible college, and if God wills be a wife and mother till God calls me home.
    Well that's about it.

Jim, your story about letting out all the stops reminds me of a story when I was about 16.

Our group from church was going to another church for a service. Two cars of us. The car I was in made it, but a tornado blocked the way for the other car. Are you getting the picture, only a few teenagers in this church wondering what happened? Didn't have the communications back then that we do now.

We are in this large church and there is a beautiful pipe organ. I couldn't resist. I just had to play that organ. I didn't realize the time...midnight by this time. I didn't know how to control the stops. They must have heard that organ all over town. I think they thought it was another tornado. I was in deep, deep trouble with the chuch organist not to mention my mother. (I know now how she feels when someone changes the stops on "my" church organ.)

I think your story was better though [IMG] [IMG]

Ally, I really enjoyed reading your post. I didn't know we had so much in common. The most striking thing to me is your age in relation to your son's. I'm 40 and my son is almost 11. He was my first born.

And yes, blessed silence is much preferred over music for me. I love the sound of my wind chimes and birds singing, but quiet has it's reward...it quiets my mind. ;)

This is a nice thread, nice to get to know a little bit about people here. [IMG]

Well, let's see... I will be 61 in July. I was married in 1961. I have 3 children , all grown now, and 5 grandchildren all girls except the oldest who is a boy.

My father was a preacher. I have 2 brothers and one sister. My sister died 22 years ago. My brothers live out of state. My father died a few years ago, I miss him terribly. My mother lives about 5 miles away from me. I am more like my father in looks and demeanor than my mother. I was born just a few miles away from where I live now.

I enjoy reading, gardening and cooking. I love my family. I love the ocean and live about 10 minutes away from it. My house is always full of animals and people.

My favorite music is classical, blues, jazz or new age. I always have music playing. I like to play dvd's with the subtitles turned on instead of sound.

I was a forklift driver. I was injured on the job, and am now on permanent disability.

    God Bless You,
    Charlotte

I've really enjoyed reading all the posts here also. Wisdom Seeker, I'm glad I was a little older when I had my son, because I definitely don't think I was ready before that. Great thread, Sherrie!

Jimmy, Those London tubes were bomb stations during the war. When siren went off, we all dashed off to the tube.........that is, until one was hit and about 50 people died.....We had little holes dug in the back gardens then with steel overhead.......I guess we thought we would take our chances closer to the sky......

The London transit still remains one of the most efficient transit systems in the world. Charring Cross was my station then.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Hmm.... who am I... my name is Elaine, I'm 20 years old, in my second year studying linguistics at Trinity Western University, near Vancouver. One day I hope to join Wycliffe and work in Central Africa. I was born in Florida, lived in the St. Louis and Philadelphia areas, moved to southern Ontario in 1990, and lived various places in the general Toronto area ever since. I love it there, but being out here on the West Coast for school is nice too. I wish it wouldn't rain so much.

Um, I go to the gym pretty regularly, I prefer free weights to machines, I play rugby (second row), and I like to read though I never get time to, besides reading textbooks (ugh).

I speak French very well, and I love travelling - I've been to Germany, Switzerland, China, Mongolia, the Philippines, Tanzania and Ethiopia. That was all with Teen Missions International, but I haven't been back for 2 years now... stupid college tuition sucking up all my money grr hehe.

What else. I just got my nose pierced this week... hehe! There's a picture in my profile. I'm planning on surprising my parents with that when I go home on the 28th. I miss my family, my sister is somewhere in the Middle East (she's an Arabic translator for the US Army) and I'm not sure when I'll get to see her next, though as far as I know she is doing well, and I miss my cat too - pretty little calico named Cleopatra. [IMG]

Can't think of anything else [IMG]

I watched it last year. It was pretty interesting -- though I found the parts about the migraines so well acted they were almost painful! It's an intriguing film if view it as a "coming of age" metaphor, with Max representing a young adult, learning to be himself while balancing the pressures of family, religion, mentors, friends, etc.

[IMG] That's one I haven't heard before. Very true! But I thought a third would look nice if I put a little diamond stud in it. hehe.

Rather ironic, when Africans got saved some years ago, the first thing they did was put clothes on to cover their nakedness, and secondly, removed all the bodily adornments.

No wonder Africa is sending missionaries to North America......

    Ok, let's see.

I'm 32, mom to 4. I grew up in upstate New York, except the 3.5 years I lived in Pontiac, MI while my dad attended Midwestern Baptist College. When we left MI, we were on deputation to be missionaries to Scotland. My mom began homeschooling us then (my brother was in 8th grade and I was in 7th) and we graduated from homeschool. When it was discovered that we could not go to Scotland, I was very sad.

My brother is my only sibling, and he is 10.5 months older than I. This situation (of being less than a year apart) is sometimes called "Irish twins" - which is particularly appropriate for us, as our last name was O'Shaughnessy [IMG] (Well, HIS still is [IMG] )

I collect penguins, I love to read (pretty much everything except horror), and I like to bake (which is part of why I'm overweight  ). I love chocolate and caramel. Together OR separate [IMG]

I am currently a member of TOPS ("Taking Off Pounds Sensibly") - Twice since I've been a member, I've lost over 20 pounds, but both times I gained it back (once due to my fourth child). I'm in the process of trying again (but haven't really gotten down to business again yet).

I WANT to garden, but haven't motivated myself to get started - partially because we are currently renting and I can't really dig up the yard here. There are six of us in a two bedroom, one bathroom trailer...

If you've ever heard of "quiverfull" - I believe that. My dh doesn't entirely, though.

Once I get started, I enjoy doing dishes.

I'm a terrible housekeeper - I procrastinate too much and tend to be lazy. Unfortunately, I see these traits developing in my children :( I need to change that.

I've lived in a lot of places - by the time I was 21, I'd moved 22 times. No, my dad was not military (well, he was in the Air Force before I was born, but was already out by the time I arrived in the world).

I'm allergic to cigarette smoke. Also to pollen and a lot of perfumes.

One of our favorite weekend activities is gold prospecting.

Guess that's enough for now [IMG]

Wow, this is great! I love getting to know all of you.

I am married, have lots of grandchildren and 2 cats.
I finally gave up and accepted the Lord into my life when I was in my 30s. I've been sprinkled, confirmed and dunked (had to keep trying until I got it right [IMG] )

I like to encourage others and am the happiest when there is something I can do to make someone's life just a little bit better.

I love talking about the Lord, sharing what the Lord lays on my heart with others.

I prefer silence and music, depending on what I am doing.

I enjoy hearing about you and getting to know you.

I manage an internet group for Christian women and whenever I feel like I need a sense of Biblical stability, I make sure I stop by here and hang out with my like-minded Baptist friends.

Where I live is beautiful with mountains, lakes, trees and lots of green. Yes, that means there is rain, too, but since that's how we get the lakes and green, I don't mind.

I love the Lord and my heart's desire is to be the best that I can be to serve Him.

My first internet group experience was right here and I try to get back here as often as I can. I know if I have a question, I'll get enough answers here :D One of my most prized posessions is my BaptistBoard mouse pad which is proudly displayed at work. [IMG]

I am an almost-31 year old pastor's wife and mother of two precious little girls, ages 2 and 11 months. My mother lives 2 hours away and my father died unexpectedly two years ago. I have one brother, who is a game warden, and he is currently protecting our freedom and future overseas as a military police in the Army Nat'l Guard.
I have bachelors and masters degrees in music and I have a private piano and voice studio here in our wonderful parsonage. I will be singing a leading role in an operetta called "Gallantry" the first three days of May.
My husband is so sweet and is a great Daddy as well. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Greek and New Testament and has been recently hired as adjunct faculty (teaching Greek) at the seminary he attends. Oh, my husband just shot and killed a HUGE possum that has been getting into the trash bin (that says locked) and spreading the trash. Guess we gots us some good eatin' comin' for the next week or so!
I plan to go back for a doctorate when my kids get into school and plan to focus in on music composition. I love writing music, especially for children. I also love to read and make things. I am a semi-professional clown (Thus the name TaterTot) and I have one other alter personality named Patty the Puppet. She emcees many events and has become a regular face around our church!
I am not very domestic. Dont like cooking, cleaning, etc. I cant seem to get organized either. I want to try to do better in those things so my girls will be better than I am!!
