What country -- other than your own -- do you root for in the Olympics?

I am a Swede living in Sweden. We are having bad luck in the olympics, but still have some hope for a gold medal.

Oops. I didn't see "other than your own" until after I voted. I would have to go with Germany, since I'm mostly German.

I always like to see countries win their first medal ever. That's cool.

I routinely root against the Chinese...the communist system breeds more cheating. I know it's not the athletes' fault...but I don't like seeing the system succeed. (for the same reason I rooted against CCCP and East Germany)

I root against French swimmers that promise a "crushing" of our guys.

Finally, and most importantly: If I see an athlete display character, courage, class...I'll root for them no matter what. Some of our more rude/obnoxious American athletes (they're a small minority of our team, and thankfully this year, there seems to be fewer to me)...I can't root for them. I don't want a jerk on the gold medal stand.

That explains the US insurmountable lead in gold medals?

Right now I am pulling for two Irish boxers who have qualified for the semi-finals. Ireland do not medal very often.

I couldn't vote in the poll, someone might think I am a UK supporter :).

Okay, okay, I voted for the first choice, but it was NOT for the UK. Why was the US the only nation to get its own slot ;) ?

Because everyone who could run, jump or swim already left.

Other than my own country? Obviously Argentina then.

And Brazil just received a royal smack-down the yesterday losing 3-0 to Argentina in the fútbol semis. I was on the road all day yesterday. When ever goals were scored everyone beeped their horns it was great!

    !Dale Argentina!

I suppose I will pull for the US. Quietly though lol.

I don´t think I will be too disappointed with the result one way or another in that situation. One would get gold the other silver.

I usually cheer for the island nations -- Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Bahamas and so forth -- since I have friends & coworkers from these places. Plus, our pastor is Jamaican.

Well It looks like I am face with the dilemma that Roger mentioned. USA vs. Argentina and unfortunately its not a medal game. My citizenship tells me pull for the "home team". But my love for my new "home" tells me to pull for Argentina. Not to mention I love watching Ginobili play and I do not like the "show-boating" that the US has shown at times because it smacks of arrogance.

Oh well. May the best team win.
    Go USA!
    ¡Vamos Argentina!
