I came under the conviction of the Holy Spirit in July 1974. The preacher was using a former MV: KJV1769. ;)

Well, I would apologize, but I don't feel there is a need to, especially with people constantly throwing around the word "PERVERSION" to describe MV's, through whose usage many have come to the Lord and are living Godly Christian lives. Remember, the KJ VERSION is just that...A VERSION!

The church my sister attends (SBC) in Augusta, GA uses the ASV for Bible study. Her pastor calls it a "modern version", as he does the rest of them back to the KJV. So, I guess the answer would be yes. At MBBC ;) when I was there, they didn't truly consider it an MV, at least most of the staff didn't.

</font>[/QUOTE]Actually I used it as an act of kindness
toward GrannyGumbo. So i feel like i got
    burnt for being good.
I would like a term so i can distinguish
from letgitimate King James Version (KJV)
    users only. For example, GrannyGumbo
who uses here KJV only cause that is all she
ever used and it is good enough for her.

By contrast, there are KJVOnlyists who
make snake-oil claims for the KJV which
cannot be proved. For example, the KJV is
    better than the original autographs,
if you could ever find them, surely better
than the original language. Come on, these
comic book philosophers deserve the term
"rabid KJVO". Hello, give me a better term
if yo wish, but i will contine to discriminate
between the two groups of KJVOs.

    BTW, an back on topic.
I was saved with a Modern Version
before me which i call: "KJV1769".

    :D

"Yet we are not allowed to say "perversion" here on the BB, but "rabid" foams & the usage of the word "cancer" eats away at me too.

broEdEd~you are wrong to say I use my kjBible only 'cause it's all I've ever used. I use it because it's the only one I acknowledge as being God's Holy Word. I do not recognize anything else as being His word and have never had a desire to look elsewhere. All I need to know about anything in this world is contained right there. It is how I know my Saviour & what He expects of me. I'm sorry if you felt you were "burnt for being good".

So, GG, you are saying that anyone saved from hearing a message coming from the NIV, NASB, ASV, RSV or others isn't really saved, because they didn't hear the Word of God and faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God, correct? I just would like to know where you're coming from with your kjVERSION, stance.

And you read all of the 'daughter of Riplinger' posts and don't think the word "RABID" is about the kindest thing we can say about them?

Remember, we are not talking about the AV (Anglican Version) here as being "rabid" or a "cancer" in the Body of Christ. We use it and love it and have no problem with others loving or using it. We are talking about a small sect who have elevated that Anglican Version to the "only" position.

AVL1984~with all due respect, please don't imply things I said when in fact, I've never said it. Yes, I do believe a person can be saved in spite of something, not because of it. For instance, those dear souls that are in that oneness/apostolic sect my son is caught-up in...I firmly believe some of them are saved, but not because of the false doctrine taught there.

Saved 11/22/79 by JESUS CHRIST, having learned of Him through His words as found in the NASB.

The only thing we are saved "in spite of" is our sin. The Word of God is necessary for salvation... and it can be found in many faithful versions or even the uninspired testimonies or paraphrases of a witness.
I disagree. Oneness folks don't worship the God of the Bible. They worship a modal god of their own creation.

Granny gumbo:RAB'ID, a. [L. rabidus, from rabio, rabo, to rage.]

Furious; raging; mad; as a rabid dog or wolf. It is particularly applied to animals of the canine genus, affected with the distemper called rabies, and whose bite communicates hydrophobia.

I truly find the frequent use of this word as applied to a certain group of folks to be very offensive and insulting.

Guess you've never been around some of the types of KJVOs that I have. In Huntington, WV, there are several "churches" that place the KJV EQUAL TO JESUS, saying one CANNOT be saved except from the KJV!!! maybe they're not suffering from hydrophobia, but they're certainly acting like "mad dogs"!

And what led me to crusade against the KJVO myth to begin with? In 1982, Dad and I were in Cincinnati, OH. Dad had gone to a park and was sitting, reading his bible, when a teenager noticed & asked Dad to explain a few things. This led to an impromptu Bible study of about 2hours' duration! About an hour later, as Dad and I were approaching my truck, five men approached, and began to badmouth Dad for "teaching one of their kids from a false Bible." One of them even CUSSED AND THREATENED him. Now, Dad is 6'5", 265 lb, a former rassler("Kharl The Khrusher", Big Time rassling, early '50s)while I am 6'2", 240 LB, former semipro football player(Various OVFL teams, 1971-81) and when those men saw they might have made a mistake(when we picked up baseball bats from my truck) they decided they had more pressing interests & hurried off. But dad and I decided we'd investigate the KJVO thing to see if there was any truth to it...and we've found there's absolutely NO TRUTH to the doctrine; it's merely another man-made myth. What's convinced me of this is its complete of even circumstantial Scriptural support, and the falsehood of the various KJVO claims, such as the two we've recently discussed. No true religious doctrine can be based upon LIES, DOUBLE STANDARDS, AND MISINFORMATION, and every such doctrine MUST BE SUPPORTED by Scripture. KJVO fails BOTH THESE TESTS, and is therefore just so much bilge.

But those men whom we met were most likely quite "rabid" when not facing two big men with ball bats.

    From the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary:

rabid: 1.extremely violent : FURIOUS b : going to extreme lengths in expressing or pursuing a feeling, interest, or opinion

    2. Affected with rabies

There is no excuse for the behaviour of these two men, and I am sorry for your bad experience. But robycop, sadly the devil used these two men, to take you and your dad away from the truth, and you believed him, because your pride, ego and hurt feelings overrided and overturned that of the truth regarding this issue. There are lies being spread on both sides of this issue. There are double standards being used on both sides of this issue. And quite honestly, the mv camp is lacking in not only scriptural support for their belief, and historical evidence, but faith in God's promises and power as well.

Then you must not understand what love is, nor truth. If you loved the word of God, and you loved others, then you could not love the modern version flavors of the month. There is only one word of God, and it is that to which the faithful have always have and always will have.

You all must always resort to name-calling, and labeling and false accustations/assumptioins, and this just shows your mean-spiritedness and love for lies. I would really hate to see you all trying to bring the lost the gospel, with the way you treat fellow brothers/sisters in Christ with such nasty words/terms, and false labels. I can't see how this type of thing would bring forth any good fruit, as this is not christian like behaviour, nor attitudes.

Michelle, You have demonstrated repeatedly that you have no grasp of the truth on this issue. Over and over we ask you to give one tangible, legitimate piece of evidence to prove your beliefs. The responses you give fall basically into to categories. You either avoid factual issues altogether or you use your belief as evidence.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that you belief in something, however strongly held, is not evidence for that belief.

Truth lines up with known objective facts as evaluated through consistent application of biblical principles. More importantly, truth lines up with the scriptures.

You have never shown that your beliefs about the KJV lines up with either.

You must not fear God or else you would tremble at the notion of denying modern versions of His Word without one single fact of any kind, scriptural or historical, to support your blasphemy.
That's laughable Michelle. You never, I repeat NEVER, deal with the meat of any of our arguments. You have yet to deal honestly with the evidence posted concerning the character of the Anglicans of the early 1600's and their persecution of our brothers and sisters in Christ.
I would hate to see you trying to incorporate your gnosticism concerning KJVOnlyism into what you share with the lost and uninformed Christians.
Before you deal with the motes in the eyes of others, perhaps you should remove that Redwood....

The difference between our charges and yours is that we can back them up with facts. You simply make charges as a diversion from the facts.

Truth lines up with known objective facts as evaluated through consistent application of biblical principles. More importantly, truth lines up with the scriptures.
    --------------------------------------------------

    KJB position:

Objective facts - manuscripts used in history of the churches, the same evidence today; existance of

application of biblical principles - evidence (scriptures) as the judge and faith of and in the evidence (scriptures).

    = TRUTH

One must first have faith which comes by knowing, understanding, and having the evidence (the scriptures), to apply and find out the history of the evidence (scriptures) and to judge all else by them.

    = TRUTH

    MV postion:

objective facts: old manuscripts, rationalization, scientific methods

application of biblical principles: none; denied by virtue and reason of human logic and wisdom

= doubt, confusion, uncertainty, deception, lies

My position starts and ends with faith in the scriptures. The mv position starts, and ends with doubt in the scriptures. Faith in the scriptures leads to truth. Doubt in the scriptures leads to lies, deceptions and confusions.

Faith in the scriptures = Truth

Doubt in the scriptures = lies
