Well, Foxworthy is a Christian. I heard his testimony.

And Jim Carey has done a little dabbling in theology with "Bruce Almighty"...

The Best speaker AND writer is in Minneapolis.

John Piper. Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Why? His scholarly writing is God exalting and God centered written for the Glory of God.

His preaching is nothing less than awesome. You can get a taste of what he is like when you hear him (desiringgod.org) But when you SEE him, with that look on his face as though God were in the front row.... amazing !!

John MacArthur 2nd for preaching and R.C. Sproul 2nd for writing.


Best ever writer? Jonathan Edwards.

 

I personally like Jesse Duplantis.
He is very thought provoking.

 

I find picking a good candidate for best national Christian speaker impossible. Way to many candidates and not enough exposure on my part.
As for writers.

In third place there is Thomas A Kempis author of 'de navolging van Christus' (the 'Imitatio Christi').
That book is (or possibly was untill recently) the most widely read book on earth after the Bible.
Rick Warren and colleagues eat your heart out!
The irony is that Thomas couldn't care less about being famous or even about his book being on any bestseller list.

In second place there is Corrie ten Boom, because I want to include at least one woman, one person others on this board would recognize and one real hero.

In first place there is Desiderius Erasmus the man responsible for 3 masterpieces in 3 different genres that changed the world.
The 'Textus Receptus', 'De lof der zotheid'/'Moriae Encomium' and the play 'Julius Exclusus' (pope Julius II the man whose actions sparked the Reformation shows up at Heaven's Gate and Petrus who now works as it's doorman is far from pleased with his deeds and attitude)

 

He provokes me alright.

 

Best American Preacher- Jophn Piper

Best American Political Speaker- Alan Keyes

 

Without a doubt, Tony Campolo.

He was the first speaker I ever heard speak out against the Prosperity Gospel teachings. Most popular evangelical speakers are either a part of the Prosperity - WOF movement or are too afraid to say anything.

Charles Swindoll who I have actually had the pleasure of meeting is another speaker that I can heartilly reccomend. His books are well written and have alot of Bible truths that can really change your life if you are open to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

 

I don't get to watch much television, but one of the last times I did I saw Alan Keyes dive into the mosh pit to get Michael Moore's endorsement for his last presidential run.


I still can't believe that you US-ians elected the likes of Bush (twice even! ) over Keyes.

 

One of the good ones for me is, now listen, Charles Stanley.
I also like D. James Kennedy

Really, in all seriousness, I think Perry Stone is the best speaker that I've ever heard. I could listen to him or read his books for hours.
