"I believe the deepest kind of preaching-bar non-is preaching for repentence. If you go through the NT, you'll find that repentance is the central them in the NT (Matt 3:2; 4:7). This is one big weakness in our preaching. I think one of the greatest weaknesses is people who are unwilling to humbly stand before people and challenge their will. Our culture is falling apart. If you're not preaching repentance in your message, you're not preaching."

Amen Corner. I find that the reason repentance is not preached is because preachers don't want to preach against SIN. The new modern preacher(Rick Warren, T D Jakes, Joel Osteen etc.) just want to make you feel better. Until a person gets honest with themselves and admits that they are a sinner and humbles admits it to God, then things will just keep getting worst for this society.

SBC: Talk about your hasty generalizations. It is amazing to me how many BB participants are able to judge the hearts of people they do not even know.

I just know what they say about themselves. If it is not true then let them say so.

OK. How about this sweeping statement on the otherside. Maybe the reason the IFBr's preach on sin so much is thats all they can do. They were avg. students in high school never went to seminary, can't read Hebrew or Greek, and can only be critical of those who differ from them in style.

Who would you rather listen to R.C. Sproul teach on doctrine or Jack Hyles preach on long hair and rock music?

IFBr's would say Jack Hyles, because he's preaching on "sin".

Give me Sproul and let the Holy Spirit convict me of sin, not Hyles.

ok, I graduated high school, made it to my senior year in college, but have never been to bible college or a semetary, so I am ignorant?

Maybe a little froggy, but ignorant? Maybe you just meant high school dropouts...

If I get a local cable show and it is successful and I nationally syndicated and you can see me every day at the regularly scheduled time and...would you then think me successful?

BTW, who did say it?

I thought it would be fun to try and guess a quote from someone in the Christian world. So, why hasn't anybody tried to guess who said the above quote? It could be from someone living or dead, modern or traditional, young or old.

I'll reveal the answer on Friday, so get to guessing!

    Jonathan Edwards?

By the way, about the sweeping generalizations and such, reminded me of a couple of lines from a song the Chad Mitchell Trio sang (back in the sixties) called "The John Birch Society":

there's no one left but me and thee,
and I'm not sure of thee!

OK, OK...Tiny Tim you sort of cheated! Yes, the correct answer is RICK WARREN. It was a quote from an interview he gave to Preaching Magazine.

The prize goes to ScottEmerson. The sucker goes to Jailminister!

Wow, kinda shoots that statement in the foot about his only preaching "to make people feel better." :D

From every sermon, article, and interview I've read with Rick Warren, he has come off as VERY Biblical, doctrinal, and practical.

    God bless!

hasn't this been adopted by most contemporary baptist churches as the opening line of their covenant? :(

Where is Elijah when you need him?
