I'm in...Great Lakes' Christmas Ale is like gold here in Cleveland. I found a 6 pack Friday night I'm willing to share (the only one in my area, the guy behind me was going to get it, he looked like a kid who didn't get what they wanted at Christmas :))...the only one seen in 3 weeks in local grocery stores.

Hello SRBooe. What verse/s are you referring to, to bar the Gentile, or God's chosen people to not drink, as it is of no value to man.

Notice the words of Paul in 1 Cor 11. The Corinthians, had been coming to church to eat and get drunk.

20When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord's supper.
21For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken.

It was a big party. This Paul says we should not do at church. But notice what he says.....

22What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? what shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not.

Paul is saying, if you are going to party, church is not the place for it. Leave it at HOME.

So ...what is this passage saying about drinking?

It has value to man at home, if they please.

The only thing God said about it not to be drunk. Paul told Timothy to "Use a little wine for thy stomach's sake."

There are a great many scriptures that discuss drinking wine. There are scriptures that even make references that show that there were other types of drinks as well, as some scripture discusses "strong drink."

There are verses that speak of wine gladdening the heart and being good for us.

As usual, and in other things, partaking of things in excess leads to sin.

With all these references and scriptural guidance, why is it that people want to create man-made rules that contradict the scripture? Why can't we just accept God's word on this?

That's the problem- modern fundamentalism has lowered the word of God. There is so much respect for what fundy preachers say that the Word of God is no more authoritative than their preaching.

That's what happens to a society that abandons exposition of Scripture for relevance or hobby horse preaching.

People do not look to the Word of God for their rule of faith and practice.

The Word of God clearly does not condemn the moderate consumption of alcohol. In fact it supports it. God even tells them to go and buy strong drink and enjoy it- Deuteronomy 14:26

But who CARES what God said!!!???? My preacher said...

Another similar error works like this-
Who CARES what God's word says!!!??? I saw what alcohol did to my family.

It's that kind of crud that undermines the authority of the Word of God in this culture.

It is worse than stupid- it is deadly.

    LOLOLOL!!!

I like that. You quote a passage, and they attack you.

I like that passage. I don't think drinking is so wise, and I don't believe the hogwash that someone has to drink to witness.

    "heroes" ...... lol

Agree both of your mentions are correct, but there are quite a few more scriptures suggesting God approves of having a little wine, or spirits.

Another age-old question you present ("Why can't we just accept God's word on this")? Try as many Christians will, they hear testimony from the other side that they would rather believe.
