Since we have a thread for IFB KJVOs to say why they believe as they do, it's only fair that WE have such a topic.

My reasons? First, after weighing all the evidence I could find, I have concluded that KJVO is a false, man-made doctrine that's been injected into IFB by some unlearned men who meant well, but had no knowledge of the subject and simply assumed it was right because it was convenient and "sounded good".

Second, one of the greatest of Fundamental teacher/preachers, Dr. Richard Clearwaters, rejected the KJVO myth for much the same reasons. I view Dr. Clearwaters as a man who'd forgotten more tenets of IFB worship and doctrine than I could ever know in this life.

Third, as a "Sola Scriptura" person, I don't believe the KJVO myth because it has ABSOLUTELY NO SCRIPTURAL SUPPORT.

Fourth, when IFB began, the KJVO myth was NOT part of it.

Fifth, the brand of KJVO injected into IFB is the WORST FORM of it, based largely upon the works of two dishonest authors, Ray and Fuller, supported today by several more dishonest authors such as Ruckman(Depended heavily upon Ray's work, & is a FALSE PROPHET) and Riplinger, whose misinformation and OUTRIGHT DISHONESTY have been proven beyond any reasonable doubt.(her DELIBERATE MISQUOTES, among other things) I will have no part of ANY doctrine founded upon lies, misinformation, half truths, and avoidance of facts, such as this Hyper-KJVOism is.

However, I have no prob w/anyone using the KJV only, or any other single valid version as a matter of personal preference.

Please keep this topic for non-KJVOs only, as the KJVOs have their own private topic.

I love the KJV. It is beautiful in its use of the English language. It does however use the language of another time and place. There are newer versions that clarify the message of the Scripture in a way that can be understood by the reader of today. After all isn't that the reason to read the Bible, to gain understanding.

I am against KJVOism because it leads to attacks against the Word of God. It also leads to a worship of the words of God rather than God. It also leads to the belief of continued revelation to the translators, something they never believed.

I love the Word of God in all faithful translations. Isn't He great and wonderful to give us His Word.

I have no problem with those who choose to use only the KJV. That is what I am accustomed to, and that really is fine for most people.

I having read several authors on several sides of the issue (there are more than 2) have decided to accept the traditional view of preservation, and praise the Lord that he has preserved the vast numbers of original language manuscripts so we can trust that After his miraculous inspiration of the Word, God used many godly, (and in some cases probably, ungodly) men to providentially preserve the Truth of his Word for us in many languages, dialects, and versions.

While I am not a textual expert by any stretch, I remain convinced that by extensive study, using English versions including the KJV that have been faithfully translated from their sources, and by the use of Greek/Hebrew study tools, and through the illumination of the Holy Spirit to help me understand what is being said, I can be very certain that the Bible that I study is the very Word of God.

Robocop3 pretty well summed up a good bit of what I was going to say.

As an I.F.B I uphold the fundamentals of the faith. I do not base my doctrines on one verse or half a verse. Being an I.F.B I can not follow any doctrine that are not grounded in the Word of the Most High.

As an I.F.B I feel that it is my responsibility to research the facts and evidence.

    I am an I.F.B because:

    1. Scripture is my authority with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

    2. Salvation is by grace and not of works.

    3. I hold to the truths contained in the living Word of the Lord. The living Word has been given that many generations and is not stuck in one bible and one language.

A doctrine must be backed up with scripture. The doctrines that I hold and many I.F.B hold can be fully backed up with scripture. Ask me about the sinless life of Christ, the virgin birth, the Eternal Sonship of Christ, etc... and I can back it up with scripture.

I am 100% anti-KJVOism and 100% pro-KJV! I prefer the NASB, but I find that are some verses that I like better in the Geneva's and KJV's family. By saying this I'm just following the advice of the AV1611 translators.

I reopened this thread after an edit by a poster above. It will not be permitted to become anti-KJVO.

Post away as to why use you other versions, but do not use this protected thread as a tool to condemn others.

The same rule will be enforced in the similar thread from the other view.

I am historic IFB, not the new revised-definition type.

Historic IFB held that the 1901AV was the best translation. They were not then or now KJVO.

And I think everyone knows I am rabidly anti-KJVO as a devisive sect that is obvious from reading the BV/T Forum below!

    Dr. Bob:

Thank you for that. Years ago I considered the IFB and then what I see now seems so different. At one time it seems they were doing quite well. But it seems the opposite is quite true.

Most IFB churches today have fallen prey to the divisive KJVO beliefs, and I can say this from experience. My wife and I have lived all over the country, and the IFB churches, with few exceptions, have fallen into this trap, calling into question other believers faith, salvation, growth, etc., because they don't follow the IFB/KJVO line of thought. I'm not saying ALL IFB are following the practice, as there are many good IFB churches there. But, they usually follow the same logic that Dr. Bob has put forth time and time again, which is in fact, the true historic IFB position.

My sending church is IFB, and Pastor preaches from the KJV, but is not a "KJVO church."

The KJV is a non-issue there.

My pastor PRIMARILY uses the KJV, since that's what he grew up with, but he's not limited to it. He also uses the 1901, and the NKJV. He doesn't care much for the NIV. He doesn't reject it completely, but lumps it with the "meanest of translations" as mentioned by the AV men in their preface.

But, most importantly, HE PREACHES WITH GOD'S WORD AS HIS FOUNDATION AND FINAL AUTHORITY, taken LITERALLY as possible!

He is not KJVO because he says there's no valid reason for it besides PERSONAL PREFERENCE, and that's not HIS personal preference. Otherwise, he won't discuss it. He once told someone trying to get him to accept the KJVO view, "Sir, my choice is made, and I preach according to the leading of the Holy Spirit. If you don't care for something in this ministry, there are many more in this immediate vicinity to choose from."

I am non-KJVO because I believe that the KJV is a fantastic translation - but not the only translation approved by God. I feel that it is His desire that all people have His Word in a language they can understand. I believe the KJV was a very useful tool for spreading the Gospel, and I believe it still is a valuable tool. I also believe that other versions are just as valuable as a tool for spreading the Gospel.

That said, my favorite versions are the KJV and the NKJV. [IMG]
