Growth is way out in front with 17, while Friendship, or fellowship, only has 4. I thought it would have a lot more votes! Debate is in 2nd with 11 votes, about where I thought. I thought Doctrine and False Doctrine would get a lot more votes than just one apiece. (Shows what I know.) And no one has fessed up to being here for mischief! Maybe if the poll had been done on "Other Denominations" someone would have fessed up to it. :type:

Since we could only make one choice, I chose growth because that where all the others lead.
I like to debate and and I like the fellowship a lot. I stay at home to take care of my mother who is in really bad health. (She lives with us) I am not able to get out much and it does me a LOT of good to come on the BB and talk to other Christians, most times about doctrine and theology, but also to just act silly.
But whether I'm debating, reading or fellowshipping, it always leads to growth, which is why I voted for it. :)

It's now Monday. I hope you are better John.

I said other. You guys are a part of my life. I have take the plug out of the laptop and sat down by Ron and said "read this." He knows you even though he doesn't post. We've laughed over you and prayed over you. We've cried over some of you.

I learn from you. Some of you have tested my patience.

I've shared the deepest and hardest parts of my life with some of you. There are some of you that I will most likely never meet in person who know more about me than people I see every day. Only God could put that together.

Amen, Brother Ed Edwards -- Preach it!

In 1968, I was called to minister to God's Ministers (primarly young ones -- but as I age, 'young' includes more and more folks).

In 1984, I was called to minister to God's Ministers on bbs (bulletin boards).

In 2002, I was called to minister to God's Ministers on the BB (Baptist Board).

Any more I want to ask myself the same question. Why am I here on the BB?
You rarely get any real conversation anymore, only accusations (without regard to what scripture really says)and personal attacks, too many don't care what the bible says, they seem to make it up as they go, even when it is pointed out to them how wrong they are, using scripture(not by me, but by many others more knowledgable). Peple jump on every little thing, if you mix two letters up while typing, your stupid and can't spell (I was called stupid just the other day), or if you don't use 100% perfect english, or if you don't know the right way to state something.
So, yes, I ask myself frequently , why am I on the BB.
It certainly isn't like it used to be, it down graded a lot in the last few years.

    Honestly, JoJ...

I began because "let him that sinneth sin no more" -- it was an escape from idleness which is the devil's workshop. Like the kid who gets into mischief because he has nothing better to do, it was a positive, Christian endeavor to share and learn from others on long layovers (even did it from Campinas, Brazil; Monterrey, Mexico; Anchorage; Maui; etc.).

I still desire to learn and grow, and the negative, boredom reasons have gone away since I retired. Mostly I want to bless others with the joy and hope that God has given me. At a time when the church seems to be losing confidence in God and His plans, I want to offer the postitive aspects of our faith. I often think back to Mal 3:13-18 where those who "feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name." These discussions are being "remembered" by God and by us and they make up the "jewels" ("precious stones") of Christ's heavenly kingdom, NJ!

BBers -- refresh your hearts tonight by reading this passage in your quiet time. It WILL bless your soul!! :godisgood:

donnA -- be sure you aren't dissatisfied because others don't agree with you as much as they used to. Accusing others of "making it up as the go" is truly offensive to those who have prayed and meditated on what they are offering you.

If you could just put it in a more understandable format, I think we would see how right you are. Resurrection1, etal. may help you keep track but it seems others get bogged down in it AND you keep having to delineate them "from scratch" each time. Your "you are here" chronologies are a little easier to "decode."

But Ed -- I love your views on end times. I think you could minister some great threads on eschatology which is sorely needed here!

I'm with skypair. The discussions here are insightful. If there are no interesting threads at the moment, it is my fault for not beginning one...

It has nothing to do with anyone agreeing with anyone else, even me.
Can you guarentee everyone here prays and meditaties beforethey post to make sure they post in God's will, or are biblicall correct?
If not, you really wouldn't know would you.
I've been here a long time, I should know the difference in the way it was with the way it is now. I noticed you joined 6 yrs after me, thats 6 yrs you know nothing about.

No, dear. Some of us have had long lives of praying and meditating not to mention sermon-hearing on the issues we speak on. It is really only rare occasions when I see a subject I haven't given a lot of prayer and meditation to already. I have even considered most of the alternatives to my own beliefs in detail.

What is the case here is the same elsewhere -- Rapture Ready, Zolaboard, Bibleforum. I've been active probably 15 years. That last one is probably closest to what you describe as the earlier BB. Boards do evolve but sometimes it just appears to me that they get less rigid and more open to diverse biblical positions from the ones they began with. (Ex: RR started as pretrib but the message board went hard-over postrib after a few years. Then they couldn't abide anyone that was critical of their opinions.)

Which RR? they had a church split in 2006, maybe early 2007.

Faction #1: The one Christine stole from the owner. (I'm still banned there, I rebelled against the Catholic-lock-step definition of 'life' = brain dead). I can't believe I had a crush on Christine after my first wife died.

Faction #2: The one run by the founder (I'm still a member there) It is noted for it's rapture ready Index at:

Note: the factions are numbered for discussion purposes only, neither faction calls themselves by the number I've assigned them.

You have just had bad lucky lately, and some of these posters are new. Only one woman is known for jumping in to fan the flames imo
She ignored the Admins warning not to turn up the heat yet jumped in with nothing ot contribute to the thread except her attemps to pit posters against one another so he had to close the thread. She still doesn't know how to use the quote button properly so the post was hard, I only read the first few sentences and the last sentences. You are an establshed poster with credibility, she is not. I would pay her no mind.

I did not say you. I asked about everyone, which you assumed everyone here prays and closely studies before answering me. Which is it is obvious they do not.

    compromise.

Joe, thank you for your support, I know we frequently disagree ourselves. I know which thread and poster you mentioned, people who only wish to inflame and cause board trouble. Why is this tolerated. Thats one reason we have rules, but rules aren't always enforced anymore here. This is only the latest of problems on this board.

    You're welcome :)
In all fairness, if we don't report it, it will probably continue. But who knows. She's the only female I have seen really cause trouble in the whole time I have been here. The women here are great.

Btw, aren't you in another thread asking me why I don't think middle-upper class people should be convicted of crimes? Hmmm....I'm gonna spank you after I am finished with my dinner!

Your right the women here are great.

No, I think that was rich people, not middle class. Seems I remember some complaint about them being convicted of crimes, or soemthing like that.
Been on too many threads lately, hard to keep up which is which.

I'm glad we can be friendly. I've always enjoyed reading your posts, and sparing with you,

Well, I must say I'm very pleased with how this poll has turned out. At this point "Growth" is the leader by far, with 21 votes or 29%. I didn't expect that but I really enjoy it! It says some very good things about the denizens of the BB.

And now my own reasons. I first came on the BB looking for information on a web search, stayed to read, lurked awhile. I then joined first of all to read and maybe occasionally debate a little. I enjoy debate so that could easily be my main reason for being here, but I would be drawn in and spend much more time than I have here if I were not careful. So lately I have made "Blessing" my primary reason for being on the BB--hence the missionary stories I tell. I also try to give a positive, historical and accurate view of fundamentalism on the BB.

Friendship is another reason I'm here. I've met some great people, and even gained some missionary financial and prayer support. Thank you Lord, thank you BB, thank you friends!

Thank you to everyone who has taken the poll and posted. My terrible cold has kept me from interacting more with you. I'm almost over it now--thanks to those who enquired and any who prayed. It's the worst cold I've had in 15 or more years, I think, and I'm still trying to shake it after 2 1/2 weeks.

    God bless all.:type:
