The thrust of most of the posts recently has been about what can be done to prevent the US from providing medical care from those who cannot get it. From a Biblical perspective I don't see how this is justifiable.

Can one of the CONs enlighten me as to why Christians should not work for making medical more available for all?

    Red herring.

Medical care IS available for all -- NO hospital in the United States can turn someone away in need of urgent care.

I live in one of Pennsylvania's poorest counties.

It's also one the fatest counties (so much for "hunger") and has a very high ratio of medical professionals to population.

It also has an above-average smoking and alcohol consumption rate.

It's such a ridiculous argment! If you don't support this particular plan then you want the poor people to suffer. No, I most certainly do not. I do not, however, believe that this current bill is the answer, and in fact I'm sure it's not.

Give a man a fish.... you fed him for a day...
Teach a man to fish.. You have a friend that will get you out of your wife's way!...

What is the new testament's answer to getting something you need...

    Work for it.

Health insurance is not a right...
Neither are fire insurance, flood insurance, life insurance, car insurance....

And what are you doing to provide it ? You seem to be demanding other people do it for you.

Got any biblical ground to stand on ?

Because taking the wealth of another against his will for the care of the poor is not Christian work.

Judas feigned concern for the poor when he despised Mary's offering, but he was a thief. I think we will find the same heart in those who are pushing this legislation.

Assuming that there is anyone who does not get needed medical care, which is untrue and you know it, Conservatives believe such aid is the purview of themselves or charitable organizations.

You see Conservatives who are Christians believe Jesus Christ meant it when He said: "It is more blessed to give than to receive"[Acts 20:35]. Liberals, on the other hand, who claim to be Christians believe it is more blessed to take from others, that is to practice thievery and waste what they take.

So, do you have health insurance? Does it cost you anything (premiums, deductible, maximums, etc.)? If so, why do you pay for it if health care is available to everyone without cost?

I don't think I said this particular plan did I? What's your alternative?

The OP makes an unfortunately all too common mistake that stems from a failure to actually think and understand the issues. There is a difference between health insurance and health care. Everyone, without exception (even illegal aliens) have the latter. Not everyone has the former.

The question should have been why conservatives want to deny health insurance. No one can legally be denied health care.

Taking time to understand issues will help to prevent nonsensical questions like this.

I'll ask you the same question I asked before. If you have access to health care for free why pay for health insurance? The answer is health care for free isn't very good. That's why the US is rated number 34 in the world for HEALTH CARE.

Perhaps the infant mortality rate would be better if we did not have a President that advocates throwing living babies into the laundry bin to die of neglect.

Perhaps the life expectancy would be higher if we did not have a President that advocates withholding medical treatment from seniors because it is more costly than he cares for.

No one has access to free health care. Doctors get paid for what they do. The question is who is going to pay for it.

Second, there are a lot of reasons why people have health insurance, including choosing doctors and hospitals. Why do people buy cars when they can walk for free? Because for some people, certain things are important and they are not important for others. And some people can afford a 2009 Lexus and others can only afford a bus ride. But both have transportation. The idea that everyone should have the same thing is nonsensical.

But you are really missing the point. The point is that you simply didn't tell the truth. Everyone has healthcare. Don't mislead about other people's position. That's unethical.

If you want everyone to have health insurance, how do you propose to pay for it over the long run? It is easy to make grand promises, but healthcare isn't free. So how are you going to pay for it?

I think we all know that the health care in the US is not 34th in the world. That's a baldfaced lie that no one really believes unless they are determined to peddle a position. You probably don't even really believe that. You just say it because it is the only way you can make your point. I have been around the world, and seen hospitals, and I assure you that I would rather be here than anywhere in the world. You probably would too.

Please, everyone does not have ADEQUATE health care. Granted if a person goes to an emergency room the hospital can't throw them out on the street. However, they can make them wait for hours to see a doctor or transfer them to another hospital, generally the "general hospital" for that area.

Do you think poor people without insurance can easily get admittance to a hospital? If you really believe that simply stop at a local hospital and tell them your MD recommended admittance but you don't have any insurance. See what kind of treatment you get. But of course poor people don't have an MD so they couldn't do this. They get all of their care at hospital emergency rooms after waiting for hours.

I have a good friend who has been hospitalized for depression several times, once at the local "general hospital" and other times at better hospitals. he told me to never let them take him to the poor folks Psych ward again because it was a horrible place. It was basically a lock down facility with no treatment other than medication. It was filled with really crazy people many of which had been judged to be criminally insane. If you think that's good care you're welcome to your opinion but I'll never go to a place like that if I need that kind of care.

Depends on what you mean by "adequate." But why does it matter if everyone has "adequate" health care by your definition? Never, in human history, was that even remotely considered necessary.

Why does this matter? Again, you keep changing subjects.

Why was he hospitalized for depression? Something's not right there. You don't get admitted to the hospital for depression.

You have some very strange views that don't stem from critical thinking about the issues.

Everyone has access to health care. And the health care they have access to in America is among the top in the world, if not the top. Anyone can take a study using certain criteria and make it look bad, but that's nonsense, and you know it. Universal health care may be a good thing, but it is not a right.

And you still haven't told us how to pay for it yet.

So, you folk are saying that Christ's teaching about taking care of others is wrong? That only those "we" think are acceptable should have health care. Sounds like the beliefs of the conservative, fundamental congressmen who like to call themselves the Christian Mafia.

No one has said anything like this. Please show us those words anywhere in this (or any other thread). Lying is a sin.

Crabby, before the last election you used to present yourself as somewhat of a rational thinking person.

For the past few months though you have shown us a different side. What's going on? Are there personal health issues that have you worried and that's whats making you speak irrationally?

    Trust in God.
