Why does Ezekiel 29 say that Egypt will be uninhabitable for 40 years?

"And I will make the land of Egypt a desolation in the midst of desolated countries; and her cities shall be a desolation forty years among cities that are laid waste. I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and disperse them among the countries" (Ezek. 29:12).

To answer your question about verse 12, go back and look at verse 3.

God says, through Ezekiel, that He is against (angry at) Pharoah because Pharoah claimed the river (Nile?) for his own and claimed to have made it himself.

In other words, Pharoah declared himself to be God. Not a god.....but God.

It is interesting that God says that Babylon (the city) will never be rebuilt
