The problem with all of this is that most of what passes for “compassion” with liberals isn’t real compassion. There’s a cost to real compassion and thus, a limit to it.

For example, let’s say Bill Gates makes $10 billion this year and gives away $500 million. Meanwhile, a middle class accountant makes $50,000 and gives away $5,000. We could argue about who’s more compassionate. After all Bill Gates gives away more, but the accountant gives away a bigger percentage of his income. Furthermore, there are limits to what both men can and should do. If Gates gives away so much money that Microsoft goes out of business and the accountant gives away so much money he loses his home, we’d consider them to be fools. Compassionate fools, but fools. This creates limits on what truly compassionate people can do. Many people talk about compassion, but only a few are going to go work overseas like Mother Teresa, consistently give 10% of their income to charity, or adopt orphaned boys.

On the other hand, 99 times out of 100, liberals’ “compassion” is nothing more than “virtue signaling.” They’re offering to take your money and give it to someone else. They’re offering to take rights away from other people that they don’t care about. They’re saying people are racist, bigoted, sexist or homophobic for disagreeing with them.

It’s cost-free for someone to talk about how much he hates racism because racism is almost universally despised in America. There is no price to be paid for attacking a zoo that made the difficult decision to shoot a gorilla because a boy had fallen into his pen. If you’re not a Christian and have no moral qualms about gay marriage, it’s easy to call for the law to crack down on bakers or wedding photographers who refuse to participate because they find it morally repulsive.

The problem with all this pointless virtue signaling is that because there is no real cost to it, there are no limits to it. As long as liberals lose nothing by advocating a position, but get credit for being compassionate for taking it, why not go for it?

This creates a situation where people have to keep on upping the ante to stand out. If racism is almost universally despised, how do you get credit for being more sensitive about race than other people? You find new things to call racist. Eventually, when liberals moved beyond parody when it came to race issues, they showed they were compassionate by obsessing over the 3% of the American population that’s gay. Then from there, they became maniacally focused on the .3% of the population (if that) that claims to be transgender.

If every single thing on the liberal wish list for minorities, gays and transgenders were to happen tomorrow, a new list of demands or some new series of pet groups that need to be protected would spring up almost instantaneously. That’s because it’s not about the specifics; it’s about an arms race between liberals trying to signal their virtue by being willing to go further than other people in being conspicuously compassionate while getting in some cheap shots on their political opponents at the same time.

The problem with this is that compassion, real or fake, has little to do with what makes a society successful. Capitalism is not warm and fuzzy. Contrary to what some people seem to believe, diversity and sensitivity to women’s issues are not what makes a military successful. In fact, the most effective policies are often not very forgiving or compassionate. So, when you have a large block of the country that completely abandons what works for whatever makes liberals feel good and look more “compassionate,” it creates enormous amounts of dysfunction. It’s like picking which car you’re going to drive in a race because of the paint job. A paint job isn’t irrelevant, but it’s also not going to win the race for you. Unfortunately, people with this mindset are only able to figure out that they’re doing something wrong after the car crashes and the whole country is along for the ride.

Probably because so many of the folks claiming to be "conservative" followers of Jesus while displaying nothing of His character are obsessed with being more and more racist, homophobic, and transphobic.:Thumbsup

And historically those racists were the ones sneaking down to rape the slave girls in the dead of night. The homophobes were the serial child molesters who went on to become Speaker of the House. The transphobes have done more illegal things in bathrooms than they can think up for the transgendered to do.

    It's a wonder why this didn't address abortion.

The problem on this is that you seem to equate obeying the clear teachings of god in the Bible as making one a homophobe or racist though!

Should we address the Homosexuality issue, by declaring that while the Lord loves and saves those caught in such lufestyles, that EVERY instance of someone doing those acts is sin to God, and that we need to state once saved, turn and repent from those deeds and acts then?

And that we can call into question all of the bad decisions, bad programs of the first black president, without being racist in our disagreement with him on so many issues?

And that we cannot just blindly stand by and allow for transgender errors come full blown into out classrooms and schools and pulpits?

Or do you think Jesus would applaud and clamor for transgender rights?

If that's what you see, I'll suggest you visit an optometrist STAT!:Geek

The clear teachings of God in the Bible don't come wrapped in the vitriol and pure hatred that are delivered by some calling themselves Christians.

What you should be doing is preaching and teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ instead of letting folks pull you into such silly arguments that inevitably leave the Christian looking and sounding as nasty and hateful as many non-Believers have been led to think.

If you're preaching and teaching ALL of God's word, the homosexuality issue is already covered right along with the lack of love for neighbor and you being guilty of breaking every law if you've broken one.

Notice how you specify the first "black " President. If you weren't already expecting things out of him that you hadn't held all other Presidents to, you wouldn't have had to specify that.

The problem with you and so many other white Christians is that you're afraid to admit out loud that you expected "the first black President" to fix all of the racial disharmony coming from Blacks. But you didn't want him to touch the outright racism and racial prejudice coming from some whites that in part causes the disharmony.

Not to mention the white anger that's tired of being told it is racist even when it clearly stereotypes and positions people with black skin to be more violent, predatory, lazy, promiscuous and worthy of being murdered by police in cold blood than their white counterparts simply because of that white anger's perceived stereotypical prejudices.

Did you call into question all of the bad decisions of the 43rd white president in the same manner? History says that the same white people complaining now did not.

Some of the very same things the current President proposed were championed by the current GOP nominee for President who those same angry white people are now coalescing behind.:Rolleyes

No one asked you to blindly do anything. But you and yours seem to do so with a certain level of hatred that is rancid straight to the nostrils of God. If you're preaching the Gospel in love, there's no need for you to start paying special attention to the transgendered other than to say that you love them and pray that they come into a relationship with Jesus Christ that leads them to live and love as He does.

But you never get to express any love because you're too busy being nasty and trying to win the argument.

The schools and the classrooms are the property of the government. They've agreed to not discriminate If you don't like it, then change Civil Rights law.

And you say transgender error because like many in the church , you seem to add an extra something of disgust in your voice and tone for every sin that you seem to think worse than the ones you commit.

Everybody has something that they are using to try and deal with their brokenness. Some use drugs. Some use sex. Some use porn. Some use politics. Some use prostitution. Some use transgendered changes.

And instead of addressing these people in the love of Christ, we seem to try to shame them and win an argument.

As for your pulpit, why would your pastor be allowing such in the pulpit? If he does, leave and have the board address it.

I believe Jesus would applaud us loving folks in the same way that He loves us. You and some of your friends just can't seem to grasp that the expression of His love even in the face of someone doing wrong is a bigger factor in you correcting them and being able to point them to Christ than winning an argument could ever be.

Now the usual suspects have to show up and claim my "fakeness" and "sanctimony" because it makes them feel justified in ignoring the truth of their actions.

Are we approved by God when we as the church point out that transgender/Homosexuality are both inheriently sinful practices, and that while we can indeed show love towards those afflected with such, cannot just condone it!

fail to see how judging behavior and willful sinning makes one a hate monger, actually it reflects love of christ, for we dare to tell them that God can still forgive and save them out from that!

And the problem with the president is that he campaighned so hard on being a christian, held ralleys in Black churches, and yet again, in every major decision and programs, goes against the Lord it seems!

Nobody asked you to condone anything. Do you condone your own sin?

And that might explain the SNIP nature of your words and the words of so many more who say they follow Christ.

You don't reflect the love of Christ by not displaying the love of Christ. Nobody is gonna receive what you say absent the love of Christ.

Again as did many on the GOP side. You're still ignoring the fact that leaving His love out is also against the Lord. And frankly the GOP just hasn't done much of anything that demonstrates a love of Christ and a love of others.

Again, BOTH jesus and paul, per the Scriptures, would be totally against Homosexual life styles, weddings, transgenders issues etc, so were both of them wrong to hold those views?

Who said it was wrong to hold the views of Christ? What you can't seem to wrap your mind around is that the views of Christ absent the love of Christ is as clanging cymbals:LOUD and MEANINGLESS.

    1 Cor. 13

And ALL TOO OFTEN you and the folks from your camp forget the love because you're too busy trying to win the argument as you seem to think you're doing now.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist but the indwelling of the everlasting, ever-loving Christ to understand why love is the said to be the greatest of the three remaining in v13.

[I am trying to understand why pointing out to others that God has comdemned their lifestyle choices as being sinful practices would mean that it is not in the "love of Christ?"

Did not the same jesus who called sinners unto Himself also tell them that unless they choose Him to follow, they would perish in their sins and go to hell?

Pay attention to your manner of delivery and the manner of delivery of a large part of the radical right who might call themselves Christians and you'll clearly see why it's NOT in the love of Christ.

HE is the perfect, spotless Lamb of God. Everything HE says is covered in His love. The same cannot be said for your presentation and that of most of the radical right.

That was not judgment, it was stating the obvious. Put you glasses on, it will help you see more clearly.
