Why so many interpretations?

    It is not hard to determine why there are so many interpretations and shades of interpretations of Biblical passages. A particular interpretation often depends on the language in which the scripture is read. For instance, take the word single, as in single person:

    In English “single” in the literal sense would suggest “a person’s isolation from all close relationships".

    In Russian or Lithuanian, the same word has been used for both “single” and “lonely.”

    In Czech single, as in a single woman means “free” to legally describe the status of a woman who is not married. This gives the word, single, a more positive attitude toward singleness as freedom from routine and sacrifice of one’s personal interests and desires.
