When someone is trying to kill you, it’s of course important to defend yourself. But it’s also important to try to figure out why he’s trying to kill you. After all, if you’re doing something wrong that has gotten him angry, then isn’t it better to simply stop committing the wrongful act? In that case, his anger might dissipate, and he might even no longer want to kill you.

They hate us because we aren't them. They hate us because their perverted religion tells them to. Period. The author seems to forget that jihad existed before Bin Laden, before Reagan, before America.

I don't think your position will hold up under the evidence.

I believe western and specifically US support for the creation and success of the nation of Israel is one key factor left out of article.

I think Mr Hornberger is a kook. First he says we gave Sadaam W.M.D.s, and then he says we went after W.M.D.s that never existed.

Well, which is it, there, young feller ? Did we give them to him, or didn't we ?

Mr. Vols is quite correct. America didn't create Islamofacism.

And when it comes right down to it, it's like asking, "what did I do to get this guy to rape me ? What have I done wrong ? "

He did mention that our support for Israel was one reason among many:

"The U.S. government has long provided unconditional financial and military support to the Israeli government as well as foreign aid to such pro-U.S. authoritarian regimes as Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Egypt".

</font>
My bad. I missed this because they didn't seem to emphasize it. I guess it would make sense to downplay this point since it doesn't really support their overall thesis that US mistakes are the cause of Middle Eastern Islamic hate. Most of their readers would consider supporting Israel to have been the right choice.

</font>
And we support anti-US regimes like the Palestinians. We are goofy, after all, supporting people who hate us, and our elected officials don't have a lick of sense, but that is no reason to hate us. No, the reason they hate us is because of their religion which is a religion of hate, founded on murder and mayhem and hate. Interestingly, I found an article by someone who grew up in Egypt and was there for 30 years and explains all of this (in spite of us throwing money at the Egyptians) and later, I will find her article and post it here. As an aside, Egypt used to be populated by Egyptians, not Arabs, before the Islamofascists drove them out, slaughtered them, and took over their country. Egypt is only one example, though.

There are a number of reasons that a person could cite for the hatred they feel for us.

However true and reasonable it is, and I do believe it is reasonable, it becomes a mute point to the argument because they're not just attacking us. They're reaching out to other countries now.

The question becomes "why". Why are they attacking everyone? What is the primary cause?

It's an easy question, because they answer it.

They believe anyone who does not follow their lifestyle and religion is unworthy of life.

That leaves us with two choices.

1. Follow their lifestyle and religion.

2. Stop them from attacking.

The U.S. has chosen the latter, although a frightening number of people have chosen the illogical number one.

While the sanctions and other wrongs we've done certainly exacerbate the hatred and should be addressed, they aren't being given top priority because even if we did that immediately,
A. we would lose money.
B. they would still hate and attack us for the primary reason.

Reason A is just wrong and immoral on our part.
Reason B is justified.

Moreover, reason B is a responsibility we have.

I see that objectivity has no place in this discussion. It seems that the typical government propaganda will do for most here.

I love you brother Curtis but trying to reason with you is like trying to discuss physics with a three year old.

More insults. I can feel yer love.

Look, you have been challenged. Other folks, besides me have challenged you, why call me out ?

Back up the article with facts that prove us wrong. Step up to the plate and stick up for the article you feel will put US in OUR place.

Dangerous weapons should be kept out of the hands of idiots... starting with Mr Hornberger's key board.

He fails completely to place all of the events he cites into their historical context. In fact, his historical "facts" are very much in question... the US did not put him in power:

Yes, we supported the Shah. While not perfect, he was a reformer and expanded rights to his people. Moreover, Iran was a critical player in the Cold War. Had we abandoned the Shah, the Soviets could have incited a incited rebellion even sooner and disrupted the whole Indian Ocean theatre not to mention oil flow.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist.

I am a Christian. Muslims are commanded to kill all infidels, including Christians.

I will remain a Christian. That means they will forever want me dead.

And I don't really care if they're upset with me or not.

If they wish to be martyrs, I am in favor of helping them get their wish. Sooner rather than later. ;)

And that is how the Muslims feel toward us and that would make you no different than a Muslim except for your name tag.
