A pair of bills introduced in the U.S. Senate would grant the White House sweeping new powers to access private online data, regulate the cybersecurity industry and even shut down Internet traffic during a declared "cyber emergency."

Senate bills No. 773 and 778, introduced by Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.V., are both part of what's being called the Cybersecurity Act of 2009, which would create a new Office of the National Cybersecurity Advisor, reportable directly to the president and charged with defending the country from cyber attack.

A working draft of the legislation obtained by an Internet privacy group also spells out plans to grant the Secretary of Commerce access to all privately owned information networks deemed to be critical to the nation's infrastructure "without regard to any provision of law, regulation, rule or policy restricting such access."

Uh, it's different because the democrats are in favor of it now?

The elite have wanted to control the web for a long time now. Too many of their dirty little deeds and secrets have been been made public via the world wide web. Why wouldn't they want to control it? An enlightened population is a dangerous thing to tyrants.

Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, who is co-sponsoring the bill, added, "If we fail to take swift action, we, regrettably, risk a cyber-Katrina."

Why do you claim that this is Obama?

You might find that you would ask fewer questions if you read more carefully.

The first sentence of the OP says:

"A pair of bills introduced in the U.S. Senate would grant the White House sweeping new powers to access private online data, regulate the cybersecurity industry and even shut down Internet traffic during a declared "cyber emergency."

Snow is a Rino, a liberal Rino. They are all in cahoots. Yep, the Internet is a dangerous thing to have under a tyrrany.

We will soon have all of our basic freedoms taken away by this administration and this congress. Enjoy your freedom you have left while you can. :tear:

Of course that was not your question. You asked what Obama had to do with it. I answered your question.

I see you are posting in the middle of the day. Do you have the day off school today?
