Can someone explain why reformed theology identifies several wills of God. I just Googled and one website listed seven wills of God.

    Perfect will of God
    Decreed will of God
    Perceptive will of God
    Preferential (desiderative) will of God
    Permissive will of God
    Directive will of God
    Discerned will of God

    Just trying to understand.

Shoot, Bob, I'm a Calvinist and even I don't understand most of them.

You have quite the knack for getting to the marrow of the bone (and I mean that in a good way).

Without going into too much detail (because of the time), a dual will in God is, I think, an attempt by us humans to describe scriptural things.

For instance...Genesis 50:20 says "...you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good..." Joseph is talking to his brothers. This shows two things: The brothers did evil to him and it was God's will that evil was done to him.

God ordained the free actions of the brothers (the evil actions) in selling Joseph into slavery. But, at the same time, through the ordinance of the brothers' evil, God's will was being worked out perfectly.

This is why Calvinists typically say "God ordains the free actions of human beings to fit and serve His own purposes."

    Blessings,

They have to come up with nonsense like this or their doctrine falls apart. Any time you attempt to twist the Scripture to fit a doctrine it doesn't contain, you have to go to these ridiculous explanations or admit your error.

Comments like this offer nothing. Perhaps I'm too tired of hearing politicians do this very thing and so it may be the case that I'm unfairly singling you out. However, this neither engages the subject or offers anything to the conversation. Unfortunately, the only thing it does is make you look like a spiteful anti-Calvinist. Perhaps that is how you wish to be seen? I certainly hope not. After all...the very words you posted could be used against you and you would not appreciate it. "Do unto others..."

These words are hateful and false and I think based in ignorance. I have no idea about your education level but I will bet the farm that you don't have a bachelors from a reputable Christian institution. I've never known an educated Christian to be so hateful towards Calvin.

You accuse me of loving him; which I don't. But I think it is FAR more obvious that you are a bitter old man that does not know what he is talking about- who HATES him a lot more than any of us like him.

Here are some of the lovely things you've said about Calvin and Calvinists and Calvinism on baptistboard.
