Mr. Edwards,

In which of the five versions of the King James Version under discussion do you find the English rendering of the tense of the verb depicting hunger in Matt. 4:2 to be so good? If the English rendering of the tense of the verb depicting hunger in Matt. 4:2 is so good, why is it that as of yet no one has been able to tell us correctly what English tense the publishers of the five versions of the King James Version are attempting to render here?

No, you do not need to know Hebrew or Greek, but you do need to know early 17th century English grammar. I am still looking for someone who does, and thus has the ability to read and fully comprehend this verse in the fourth chapter of Matthew in any of the five versions of the King James Version being discussed here.

And which of the five renderings of this verb in the five versions of the King James Version is the correct rendering of the verb?

One more question: Do any of you have yet another version of the King James Version rendering of Matt. 4:2 to add to the five versions of the King James Version being discussed in this thread?

Wasn't intending to poke fun.

That is true. And that works both ways. It seems to me from looking at the overall posts in this forum (and I rarely post here as you know), some people here have a "hobby" to poke fun or belittle the KJV. I've seen some members (won't mention any names) on other boards with the same message - tear down the KJV.

I try not to & don't know that I have. Again, to me it appears to be the other way around.

I don't know anyone who regularly uses a MV. I gave my son a "The Way" when he was a youth. We have a NKJV and an old green "Living Bible." There might even be a Duoay version around here somewhere.

But perhaps I have been wrong not thinking this is an issue...

it IS an issue...if it's ripping the heart and guts out of the Church of Jesus Christ and turning brother against brother when there is a whole world out there dying and going to hell. [IMG]

It all seems pretty trivial arguing about the versions from eternity's viewpoint unless someone is going to hell over it.

Maybe it's just me. [IMG]

According to a recent survey of 26
Baptist Boardians, 92% say you can
be saved using a non-KJB and
8% say you cannot be saved using
these non-KJBs.

So i'd say at least 8% of the BB-ites think
that the subject of Versisons is worth discussion.

You ought to for the sake of those who need to know how arguementative these people are. They go looking for a fight, we just have to be ready to defend, we don't go looking for them to start a debate, they always come to us.

That ought to tell us all a thing or two!

Ed, yall label me as KJVO, but I would have to ask this 8% how did anyone get saved before 1611?

I had this discussion with a young man I have known for years, he isn't even in church now, but the discussion started when he said to me he didn't believe anyone could be saved except through the KJB. I told him that was a load and asked him where he got that from? He said he just realized it.

QuickeningSpirit: "Ed, yall label me as KJVO ... "

1. I am "ed", I am NOT "yall".

2. I do not construe you as KJVO.

I believe the KJV1611 is the real KJB.
I believe the KJV1769 is the real KJB.
I believe the KJV1873 is the real KJB.
I believe the real KJB is God's written word.
I believe the Third Millennium Bible (TMB) is God's written word.
I beleive the 21st Century King James Versions (21KJV)
is God's written word
I beleive the Reader's Digest Bible is God's written word.
etc.

Maybe you don't get it?

The English KJV is so good, you don't need
to know Hebrew or Greek.

</font>
How would you know for sure if you have no way to know if the translation is correct? I assume you either speak from ignorance or truth. But explain to me how you would know the diference if you do not know the languages of scripture.

I do not know Hebrew nor Greek.
Learning them is out of the
question until i retire.
I do know enough modern English
to become a success as the word sees it.
I have 16 Bibles in English on my
computer desk: 3 each KJVs (different),
2 NIVs (the same), and one of 11 other Bibles.
By looking at them and relying
on the Holy Spirit to give guidance,
I can understand enough to get by.

You had best clear this one up, afterall we all have a level of hypocrisy that needs to be dealt with.

Like someone said when you compare all the King James bibles there are differences in spelling because of printing machines etc.. The most important thing is there are no verse deletions between them.

</font>
Then why do you keep coming across as so confused? How about letting us in on your conversation with yourself? Only a small portion of your post is discernable, the rest is incoherent.

My post was quite clear that people are not limited to the KJB to be saved and my dealing with a very close friend of mine on his error, then you come along as the wise-acre, mocking and alluding to who knows what.

I'm just so proud of you. I'm in a state of shock and awe.

What you are doing is exactly what I advise anyone in a Bible study I lead to do. It shows where the translators had difficulty. It often helps one to better understand the text as well.

Perhaps he chose to go to Harvard and Yale instead. Doctorates from both Harvard and Yale will not make those scraps of food any more wholesome! :( Why settle for just “getting by” when God has so very much more for you! Why settle for “he was afterward an hungred” when you can feast on a seven course steak dinner by opening up the pages of the NASB? [IMG]

Oh, I thought yall were old classmates. BTW, did you convince "Tom" the nas"v" is this seven course steak dinner or did you invite him to a home cooked meal in the AV 1611 KJB? You know, one from HOME/Heaven?

Why not? You should've at least given him a few dollars and provided him a good meal that didn't come out of the dumpster, if you really cared. [IMG]

These sad stories really tear me up, but are they real?
