Is it true that we will know our loved ones in Heaven only as brothers and sisters in Christ and not in the capacity we knew them here on earth?

Is there scripture backing that up or refuting it?

There is no Scripture backing that up. Our relationships will improve in Heaven...not vanish. Granted, there will be no marriage, but if you have a best friend at work, does that relationship end once either of you quit your job? No. One relationship ended, but the backbone behind the relationship remains. We will all be living in perfect unity with Christ. I believe those we are close to now will continue for eternity...and the relationships will flourish in addition to new relationships forming. It's not like we will be pressed for time :D

So, we will know our friends but not our spouses?

The way I read this (and it could be wishful thinking) is that there will be no new marriages. I will know my wife, and yes I expect our relationship will change when we are in Heaven, but it is changing every day anyway.

    Well I Am Blessed 16;
All we have is a few scriptures talking about how it will be like. It says "we will be known as we are known" Also, when the Lord was up on the Mt of configuration they knew who Moses and Elias were supposedly by their looks.

To say we will know our spouses and parents is certainly a good thought but in reality that is what it is a thought for the Scripture also says "it has not yet appeared what we shall be like, but we know we will be like Him.

Also, when He comes He will have the Lamb's Book of Life and I believe its OUR names written down in that Book and I also believe He will call us by name.

I will say this, that ever how it is we will be satisfied. There are so many things we can't know such as if our children are lost then it would not be Heaven, if we knew. If our spouse was lost the same, so its like a lot of other things that have to do

with Heaven, we will know when we get there. I would like to think I will know my wife and children. I preach about Mother and Father being there but they won't be my Mother or Father but sister and brother. Nothing wrong with wanting to go where

Mother and Father are if they are in Heaven. I have heard some condemn it when preached on but David had a desire to be with his son and I think David thought he would know him.

Sure glad its in the hands of God and not ours. Blessings,

Plumbers don't get a free pass to heaven! So, we will be quite different in heaven. I haven't a clue what we will be like or how we will know each other. I THINK it will be a spiritual reunion......a 6th dimension..we enter into a timeless zone................................

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Will we know?

I have one thing to say on this. In the OT in the Bible, the phrases Abraham, Issac and Jacob is repeated many times. I believe that when one goes to be with Jesus we are the same spirit but we will have different robes. In other words, our spirit was given by God and He knows each as an individual spirit so we don't die to the spirit but are given new selfs. You will probably know your spouse if He believed in Jesus or before Jesus if He believed God. But the desires of the Spirit will not be the desires you had when you were alive. You are now in the Spirit of God. Do you understand?:love2:

I believe we will be given new bodies (physical) or we would have no need of the mansions and streets of gold.

I believe the only desire we will have is to worship at the Saviour's feet.

I believe we will know each other as brothers and sisters in Christ only.

I believe we will love everyone to the same degree - like the love Jesus has for us.

Otherwise, what about the widow who remarried? She can't have two husbands in Heaven so will she know the last one but not the first?

Actually, neither view, that we will know our friends and relatives in heaven or that we will not, is supported by the Bible. It's all speculation.

As explained previously in this thread, with scripture, she will know them both -- and since there is no marriage in heaven, she is married to neither.

I Cor 13:12 offers me a great view of heaven -- to know, as I am known. There is so little we know now. There are such great mysteries to be shown to us.

Don't get caught up in the legalism of the pharisees that prompted Christ's answer to a similar question.

It has not yet appear what we shall be like in Heaven.
