With the advance of secularism and immorality in our society, will Baptists stand with God? Will we, like the Apostles and early believers stand fast? If Christian marginalization continues will we have the faith to refuse to yeild? What is your opinion?

Pride will allow many to stand firm for what they believe. But those decapitating Christians believe the action appropriate.

    1) Do we stick to the truth, or tell "little" white lies?
    2) Do we admit our mistakes and change our ways?
    3) Do we strive to do right, even with the "little" things?
    4) Do we consider others more important than ourselves?
    5) Do we love God with all our heart, or are we friends with the world?

Many a Republican seems to be a Rino, i.e. a Republican In Name Only. How many of us are Christians in name only. Ready to find fault with others, even as they pour out their lives for Christ.

Baptists as a whole? I don't know. I suspect that many of them do not already. Political/social positions do not constitute standing with God. Being an active and productive member of the Kingdom of God constitutes standing with God.

I'm not sure human society has ever been completely receptive to the work and members of the Kingdom of God. Religious groups may be accepted and achieve acclaim, but that is not necessarily the same thing.

The problem with making generalized statements like this is that so many of the so called political and social positions are also biblical positions.

You are correct that political and social positions must be informed by our life in the Kingdom of God, but I have noticed that a lot of people are judged to be faithful Christians by their political/social and even theological stance, rather than whether or not they exhibit the fruit of the Spirit or the works of the flesh.

I made the statement not to say that political and social positions are unimportant, but to refocus the attention where it belongs.

When one is a Christian but supports parties or politicians who promote the slaughter of unborn children it does bring it into question. Just one example.

Where did you get the idea that one who manifests the fruit of the Spirit would promote the slaughter of children?

But may I suggest that a person who exhibits the fruit of the Spirit would not simply take a "pro-life" position and vote certain ways, but that person would also figure out ways to be truly pro-life and help support women with unplanned or difficult pregnancies, adopted unwanted children, support legislation that promotes the health and well-being of pregnant women and young children, and/or other activities of engagement according to the gifts and resources of the individual and church.

I agreed with you until here:

We need to stop seeing government as the answer and salvation to all our woes.

    Did you notice the "and/or"?

I don't think the government is "the answer and salvation to all our woes."

I'm leaving the door open to appropriate political action, as well as appropriate private action. Governmental legislation is not always harmful. There are many ways to respond to the issue and each of us have ideas on how to do that.

Blind loyalty to candidates that oppose abortion but do not do anything to support life is not helpful. It takes more that just talk to make a change in this world.

More often than not, the government actually CREATES more problems than it SOLVES........in fact I can't think of hardly anything the government has actually solved from 1933 up to today!!!

I believe, government is the answer and salvation to all our woes.

When government legislation is used for the purpose of providing a living for us it is always harmful each and every time.

Who are these "blind" loyalists and what do they do that indicate that they are "blind". Protecting life is a constitutional government function, providing for those who will not provide for themselves is not. We need to remember that with every single law we pass we lost that much more freedom. Our representatives need to be up in D.C. less, a lot less and we need leaders out in the real world looking to make a difference and find nongovernment solutions in every situation. When we go to government to find a solution we have failed. Government should be very limited and should only be used to serve in a very small minority of reasons.

What about Al Gore inventing the internet?

Seriously, what the government does is take credit for private sector innovation. I remember the CAFE standards taking credit for the improved efficiency from fuel injection and the demise of the carburetor. Recently they have passed higher standards, to take credit for hybrid (electric/fossil fuel) powertrains.

What gets me is a majority of Americans keep voting for those who think more government control over our lives is a good thing. Amazing!!

I am reminded of the Klingon epithet, translated as "willing slave." It appears that the professing Christians on this board do not accept the Biblical teaching that freedom is better than slavery.

oh 6:66 From this time many of His disciples went back into the things behind, and walked no more with Him.
That is supposed to be John 6:66
I believe this day is coming again and soon
