Honestly? I have no idea. I've already been seriously considering holding myself to the "Other Christian" forums, because I'm seriously considering membership in a Quaker meeting. My core beliefs have not changed, but out of respect for the board rules I feel I should do that.

At this point, though, it's only "seriously considering," so unless someone kicks me out of these parts, I'll stay as I am.

Denomination? Well, theoretically baptists aren't denominational, but I do plan on serving Alliance-affiliated churches. I've helped out in UCC churches, and I would be open to Episcopal or even ELCA Lutheran churches. The Methodist "machine" frightens me a bit, so I don't see myself ever going there.

At the end of the day, though, I'm a baptist in heritage and belief.

I was saved in a Methodist Church , but the Lord led us to a different town and a different church a Missionary Baptist Church, and I am very grateful, this is the first Church I have ever been in that just feels right and feels like home. Our Church is very disciplined and well ran. I will always be a Missionary Baptist till the day I die!

    God Bless

Please inform me... isn't the UCC a formation of two denominations that joined? See? It IS possible.

The UCC was the product of the merger of four denominations in the fifties. They are also in full communion with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and the Disciples of Christ.

I am a Christian first and fore most.

A Southern Baptist next, if the SBC ever abandons the Scriptures for feelings and emotions, then I will abandon it. Scripture was given to be our guide, not a suggestion. So as long as the SBC stays biblical, there I will be. [IMG]

I have always been a Southern Baptist and will continue to be one. I graduated from a Southern Baptist University. I have attended churches of other denominations, but a Southern Baptist CHurch is like home. I feel that wherever I travel that if I need help I can go to the Baptist Church in that area (even if it isn't Southern Baptist).

I love my church and it does not get into politics. The people are like family, loving one another, praying and caring for one another.

I will not leave this church unless we move or my husband decides to leave. I do not think either one will happen. I think we are here to stay and work for the Lord in this Church.

I am a Christian because of Conversion - That can never change.

I am a Baptist because of Conviction - That will never change.

I am a Southern Baptist because of Choice - That could change but it is highly unlikely.

I've been a Southern Baptist for a little over two years now (I was United Methodist before that). Unless the SBC ever starts to abandon the Bible and accepting all of the liberal garbage that's now going into many denominations, I imagine I will remain there. After all, I am planning on becoming a Southern Baptist pastor!

I am with Dr. Bob on this one. I am Baptistic in all of my beliefs and grew up in a Baptist Church. But starting in College I . . .

attended a Plymouth Brethren Church for 3 years who were right on the money (you wouldnt' be able to disquish them from an IBF save the communion every week in a seperate service in the morning).

attended a independent "Bible Church" for two years which had apsolutly fantastic teaching

and now attend Calvery Chapel in the bay area which, truth be told, I wouldn't stay at if I wasn't moving already to Texas soon. I don't align with all of the doctrine (or better, doctrinal ephesis) but my wife and I have seen it fit to stay and fellowship with these believers nevertheless in order to help encourage and build up the kindgom of God.

As you can see, I move to much and will be moving again this January to Austin Texas. There, following pastor Bob's footsteps, I will probably be attending an Evangelical Free church. I'm not so concerned with the name Baptist on the door as Baptist beliefs and strong fellowship among Bible believing Christians and I have found that in all these places. I have respect for believers in Luthern, Presbyterian, and Episcolpal churches and have learned much from the writings of Godly men in these traditions (Luther, Calvin, Edwards, etc) but nevertheless in my present Bible understanding they error on points and if I have the choice, I will attend a church with Baptist beliefs.

Until Presbyterians can make fried chicken as good as Baptists, probably.

I met some Watchtower Slaves one time that told me I was a Baptist before I told them where I went to church. That was very encouraging to me.

Now the name Baptist means just about...... well, we have more variety than Carters got pills. It means just about nothing at all. The name was generated out of deragatory attitudes and born of people who had a burning desire to identify a group of odious religious anarchists. Is this what it means to be a Baptist today? I think not! If you are a Baptist you do not have a right to say you chose to be one. One of the greatest distinctives of the people of TRUE faith is that they were identified by their enemies. Does this mean that because I believe the name Baptist is empty that I have the liberty to choose another name? No. Historically I must wait until I am pointed at and chided and laughed at and then identified by those who hate what I believe by another name and then we pass on in history to another period. I once thought "Baptist" was an identifier, but now I know differently, I am waiting to see what my next name will be. It is not mine to choose, it never has been our choice. Our only choice is Christ, the world gives us our name.

    Thanks ------Bart

I am a Christian who believes the Bible, I get all of my beliefs from the Bible. I call myself a Baptist so that people at least have an idea of where I stand on verious issues. I am a member of a Baptist church and will no doubt stay there. BUT, and this is very important, if THEY change and leave me out in the cold then I will not be a Baptist. I don't see that happening any time too soon. Although there are individual churches who move away from what the Bible says..

Saved by Grace and Baptist I'll stay.

Just because it has a sign out front that says Baptist does not mean it is Baptist.
