You're correct on this point. However, on a national basis the Democratic Party pretty much acts as if its headquarters is on Montgomery Street in SF.

Oh, sarry to hear. It is very different to discriminate based on a life choice vs something people have no control over. We can't control our race but we can sure choose our life mates...

A major part of those decisions was overpriced labor. The Unions have demanded too high a salary for too long, and now they are paying for it. The problem is that they are making the rest of the country pay for it as well.

You have to put this failure at least in part on the unions. Management has plenty of blame to bear. And that's why it is probably better to let these companies die and they will re-form as a better more solid company with competitive wage structures and better business practices.

If a roofer falls & breaks an arm AND a leg, he will never, NEVER be fully recovered if only either the arm OR leg is fixed.

If both are repaired, there's a great chance he can resume his same job, but not if only part is fixed.

    Ditto the auto industry!!

    Another thought:

Of these 3 major auto companies, Ford has a major plant in South America where labor is cheaper. It is likely that GM and Chrysler have plants in other countries also. What is to prevent the auto makers being helped with a taxpayer bailout or loan from taking the money with the industry outside the US? Nothing! Once released to them, the use of the money is theirs. Look at all the promises made to us by our lawmakers defending their decision passing the bailout, concerning the oversight and the iminent necessity and how it would free up credit for restructuring salvagable but teetering loans for homeowners and businesses.

The companies cut back middle management and the grasshoppers whihc did their work and the execs partied and tied up the funds........ possibly through repeats of playing the market which brought them to this point of fiscal insolvency in the first place.

Bankruptcy and restructuring will either help our auto makers to get leaner and meaner in competition here in the US. or they will go under anyway, and our dollars would not have saved them from their inability to restructure their overhead, including labor cost without cooperation of the unions.

It's kinda funny how liberals are not talking about returning GM to a being a profitable company...

It seems to me all the restructuring in the world won't do any good unless it actually does make them profitable.

Is democrat's plan actually the eventual government takeover of GM? Therefore they just don't care if they make a profit.

    Hmmm....

It is more likely that their plan is that the Union make as much as the owners and everything is equal so that the proletariat is not exploited.
