If only we could all have that kind of testimony. While I agree, living an exemplary life is a good witness for Christ, we are also commanded to "preach the gospel".

"How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?" Rom 10:14

"And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." Mark 16:15

Living a good Christian life will not keep individuals out of hell. They must hear the gospel.

I wish the article has said more about the couple in the following years. Perhaps it was a statement that was current. Perhaps the young couple were waiting on the Lord to bring people to them to withess to. We do not know. There is a time to speak and there is a time to be silent. Perhaps their silence was the wise course to follow at that time. Certainly they had impressed their neighbors greatly. I grew up on a farm and know that the harvest is not ready to bring in until it is ripe.

"In the late 19990s, a group of fundamentalist Muslim missionaries came to the village and urged the locals to get rid of the Christian infidels,"

Perhaps it`s in the future - ;) only joking :wavey:
This is a good example of `Be still and know that I am God`. They will be in place when the harvest is ripe, if it is Gods will to use them there.

What that is all true, we are also called to just be good neighbors, be helpful, and to do - this is horrible for some Baptists to read - good works:

For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

"the late 19990's". That would be the 200th century, right?

drfuss: We personally know a Christian couple who had a good business going, lived in a large new house, and lived a plush lifestyle. God called them to give it all up and go live in another country and do basically what the couple in the OP have done. They have lived and raised their famly with the Moslems in a two or three bedroom apartment for years.

Sometimes I have questions about people who feel the "Call of God" to accept a position that actually improves their lifestyle. I have no question about the call of this Christian couple who gave it all up to follow the "Call of God".

Usually, a real "Call of God" is a calling to sacrifice or the risk of sacrifice, not a call that results in a better life.

    Excellent stories, and comments.

I once heard a sermon from a missionary who was about to go to Africa, where he basically said "lifestyle evangelism doesn't work. People don't get saved by watching other people."

Now, he may have meant that people don't get saved without hearing the word; but with the rest of what he was saying (in effect, "be like me - be a missionary"), he dismissed the fact of what someone said here: "there's a time to be silent."

I myself was led to seek more about the Lord by the "lifestyle evangelism/example" of others.

    Don,
I agree with what you are saying. However, there are many people who never, ever get around to speaking, when they should.
Around here, there are many, many nice Mormons. At some point, the Gospel is not about how nice I am but about what Christ has objectively done.
