How do you feel about it? I am talking about someone leading in congregation singing whether it be for kids or adults, from a keyboard, guitar, or just a microphone.

(I know this is opening a can of worms, but go on anyway.)

Im not so sure Id have a problem with it, Tater.....and Im staunchly conservative. (in case anyone was still wondering..... [IMG] )

Then again, Im only thinking of a "song leader", we would not call the song leader a "worship leader", as there's more to worshipping God than only in the song service.

Tater, for kids only I would have no problem. Or a woman singing and then asking everyone to join in. As far as a woman leading congregational singing, (or a choir), I can't say for sure that would necessariy be usurping the man's authority, so on a Biblical level I can't really say I'd have a problem with it. As with bapmom, we would not call the song leader a worship leader, although singing is part of worshipping, isn't it?
However, just from a personal, "feelings" stance, I wouldn't feel comfortable with a woman leading a congregation in singing or leading a choir, but, again, that's just going on feelings. I just like to see the men in any type of leadership position. Out of the many choirs I have sung in, the best choir leader I had (Christian church but not Baptist) was a woman, but "best" does not necessarily equal "right". But then again, I haven't said it's wrong. Have I confused anyone yet? :D
I would just say we should strive to determine what God would say in the matter according to His Word. I have not totally done that in my mind yet.

Yeah, what she said ... ;)
"Song leader" and "worship leader" are two different things in our little corner of the world. Women are not considered for worship leading in our local baptist churches.

As long as she has the support and is under the authority of the pastor I have no problem with it at all.

My humble opinion is this. If a woman is presented with the opportunity to be put in the position as Worship Leader....I shall say she really earned it and passed all test to get there. Only because in the last 2 weeks have I seen where worship is concerned...how hard it is for a woman to get respect. She would of probley had all aspects of her life put under a microscope before even being concidered to be put in that position.
My husband was amazed last week during our praise and worship practice that any suggestion I would make...the men in the group would politly say something aginst it. Then in the same breath say "hay, lets try it this way!" and be the same thing I suggested! Ya'll know I'm in a church thats a little more er um "open" ( <--- not sure if thats the right word but ya'll know what I mean) to women in ministry and holding offices in church they will work 10 times harder to get there.

God bless this woman....... especially if she's not the pastors wife. Because the position probley didn't come easy and she really has a heart for worshiping the Lord. I say she is the right person because somewhere she earned respect and the Lord must of put His favor on her. I say this with the most sincere respect.

You're not even talking preaching here. Can a woman pray in public? Then she can lead worship!!! Go for it!

I would allow a woman to sing, but not to lead. The Scripture tells us that man is to be the leader.

I would allow a woman to preach, but not to pastor. Anna a prophetess, was in the temple. Philip had 4 daughters who prophesied to Paul's company, yet there is no record of these women being reprimanded for their preaching. Priscilla as well was not admonished for expounding on the word of God.

A woman can get up and sing, she can preach, she just cannot take the role of a pastor.

As long as I'm discussing this on another thread, what about if the woman in question is an XY sex-reversed female, that is, she is genetically male? :D

Going out on that limb would not be helpful to the person who made the OP, now would it?

Since it's relevant to the topic, relevant to the previous post, and since thinking is always profitable, I'd say yes.

The Scripture is referring to the authority of the pastor in the church. If a woman has the support of her pastor and is under her pastor's authority she is not the leader.

I find it odd that you would be ok with a woman preaching, but not leading the music?

I agree she should not take the role of the pastor. Leading the music is not taking the role of the pastor.

What determines a Song Leader or Worship Leader?

What if someone worships while the song leader is leading?

If the song leader person worships while leading in a song, are they a Worship/Song Leader?

Does anyone think the Pastor should be the Worship Leader?

I think that the pastor is really the "worship leader". I should have worded the question differently, but its too late.

PJ asked what my take is on it. I do it and I love it. Its a passion for me. I struggled a long time, tho, b/c of my upbringing. Women didnt do that. They played instruments, sang, but not "that". The first time I was approached to become a "music minister/director" I assumed I shouldnt. So I studied the word and could find no prohibition. So I do it, and I love it. I dont "usurp" over the pastor (he's my husband). We work very well together and it just comes naturally. So thats where I stand. Personally, I like a male leading in music, but competent ones are few and far between.

in these parts, a song leader is someone who calls out the hymn. A worship leader actually coordinates and plans worship services in a way that creates an atmosphere for worship.

The worship leader should be the Holy Spirit. If one begins anything in the sanctuary without the leading of the Holy Spirit, they are only seeking to satisfy flesh.

He must increase, I must decrease.
