Women in Bluegrass Attract National Attention

Nashville, TN -- Years ago, anyone would be hard pressed to find so many talented women in bluegrass garnering so much national attention, but Mike Kear of Pacific Bluegrass Network in Australia had plenty of music to choose from when planning a feature radio show dedicated to Women in Bluegrass. This special radio program will air on WAMU Radio beginning today, Saturday, October 18, 2008 and will be rebroadcast five more times next week and has their complete schedule at the WAMU website. The three hour show will include either all-female or female-lead music and also feature the brand new CD, Bluegrass Bouquet, the third album by the Daughters of Bluegrass, produced by Frances Mooney.

    If I may....

Here's the MySpace page for my wife, based on the music she was playing before we met.

    http://www.myspace.com/phylliserck

She qualifies as a woman in bluegrass.....

Ken, our main disc drive fried, I was able to salvage 4 songs, and we have to start over. The unit was about 10 years old, so I should have expected it.......

But if you PM me the address, I'll send you what we have....

I noticed that Phyllis recorded with Rickie Simpkins. That is so neat! I love his fiddle playing on "Jerusalem Ridge" on Tony Rice's CD, "The Bluegrass Guitar Collection".

Those songs are quite well done on Phyllis' MySpace page.

Sorry to hear about your drive frying. I have PMed you my address.

I am having my first training session tomorrow afternoon with a current DJ on WWB so hopefully it won't be too much longer before I am on the air on Saturday mornings. :)
