I am startinging this thread on behalf of SRBOOE from my OP of Changing doctrines. He brought up an intersting point - so I thought we should expand on it.

What probitions does the Bible teach about women Preaching and leadership

    A. Are they allowed to be a pastor

    B. Are they allowed to be an assistant pastors

    B. Are they allowed to preach

    C. Are they allowed to hold a position such as Christian Ed Director

    D. Are they allowed to be a Deacon

    E. Are they allowed to teach (in regards to adults)
    1. men only
    2. Women ony
    3. mixed groups ok

    F. Are they allowed to teach high school boys

Most of the best sermons I have heard in the last 10 years were by women, beginning in Xi'an, China in 2000. The last really good sermons I heard were given by a brilliant woman from Estonia and a young woman from Holland.

I do not see anything in the teachings or actions of Christ that prevents a woman from being a pastor, preacher, teacher, etc.

Yes I did read the OP. In your reply I clicked on the link (read my op in this thread?) and it took me to another thread. Maybe the two are linked in some way that I do not understand. One is about pasting long quotes and the 2nd, this one is about women in ministry.

I do not mine you disagreeing. That is fine. However, saying that, I say again that I see no where in Christ's teachings or life anything that indicated he would reject women in ministry.

Now Paul is a different story and then it all depends on how we interpret some of his passages and I am sure we would not agree. But, as I said, that is fine as long as we remain rational and polite. But that is fodder for another thread. :)

Scripture is crystal clear: women are not to be in authority over men or teach men in the church. They are not to be pastors/deacons/elders. It can't be much clearer than it is.

For a different perspective, I recommend Daughters of the Church: Women and Ministry from New Testament Times to the Present by Ruth Tucker and Walter Liefeld.
Liefeld once pastored Northport Baptist Church on Long Island:thumbs:

You cannot prove this by the teachings and life of Jesus ... and it all depends on how you view, in context, Paul's writings. Very gently said. It is not so crystal clear.

What do you mean by authority? I have asked this question before in several threads and have yet to receive a coherent answer. Again very gently said and question asked.

Oh, and I am a Baptist so I do not consider any man as having any authority over me either. In addition to being a Baptist I have lived far too long and seen to many pastors with feet of clay to consider them as having authority over me.

Did he? I don't know the history of our pastors other than our pastor has been here for 42 years and Anne Graham Lotz' father-in-law pastored here as well. Where did you see this?

CB, are you saying that since Jesus did not address the church (which was not in existence at the time) Paul's writings were wrong because A) it was not of God or B) because it is not convenient with your world view or C) some other reason?

It's as crystal clear as the nose on my face.

Can your church practice church discipline on you? Yes? Then they have authority.

Your indictment upon pastors and how you feel about them is a commentary upon yourself and not upon them. I say this gently.

It also comments on your view of the Scriptures, and their authority over you.

That you cannot see the role of women clearly is not a surprise when you can so easily reject the God given authority of a pastor, no matter how you feel about their "feet".

    I say this gently, too.

Annsni, prominent egalitarian Walter Liefeld mentions pastoring your church in his commentary on the pastoral epistles. Cool, right? It's a small world:laugh:

From what I can see, he was an interim pastor here. Well, he wouldn't be comfortable with the very clear teaching from our senior pastor then. "When a woman can be the husband of one wife, we'll talk" is what my pastor says.
