    Mongols for the greatest amount of the Earth's surface controlled.

    China for the most people under it's control, and for the longest-lived empire. (just edged out Egypt)

    British for the most geographically-separated empire.

    Roman for the greatest impact on the subsequent history of the world. (up to now, anyway)

    Yep. In the War of 1812, the U.S. invaded Canada. Troops under Henry Dearborn captured York, the capital city, and burned it, supposedly enraged when soldiers took the wig of a jurist for a scalp.

    Well, the Americans weren't the only ones to attempt to invade Canada. The Irish tried it in 1866 in the often-overlooked Fenian Raid.

    THE FENIAN RAID

    The Americans came within a whisker of taking Canada during the Revolutionary War. Benedict Arnold distinguished himself for the first time in a career that included a heroic navy career and victory at Saratoga ... before the unpleasantness at West Point.

    But I digress.

    Invade Canada?

    Very good idea!

    Annex Mexico? Might as well before they annex us.....

    The United States of North America! Has a very pleasant ring about it. :D

    After the Mexican War, Polk wanted to annex Mexico. But the slave states were alarmed by the prospect of all those free states coming into the Union, and that was the end of it.

    Greatest Empire was the Egyptian. Look at the technology available at the time. They did much with little, at least in todays terms.
