brings one back to the 60's and the super-mini skirt. in the Philippines, we had this means of transportation called the "jeepney". it had two rows of seats facing each other at the back, sits six or seven people.

to get to the seating area, you stepped up a small ramp.

mini-skirted women perfected the art of stepping onto that ramp without exposing their pantied butts and fronts (excuse the language).

problem is when they sat down, their skirts pulled up, so they kept pulling the skirts down, trying to perform a miracle and have a short short skirt extend halfway down to cover their exposed thighs which it wouldn't.

meantime, the men were ogling them, some leering openly, some wolf-whistling.

some of these women got mashed.

did they deserve that ? some think they did because of the way they dressed, many say no.

were the men who couldn't control themselves justified ?

I don't think so, but many thought so. The feeling was, heck, you dress provocatively, you get others provoked !

The US certainly did not deserve 9/11, let me rephrase that, the victims of 9/11 certainly did not deserve what happened to them, but it happened just the same and the fact that I was born and raised in a country which was once (and still is) under the US' imperialist grip makes me pause and think that perhaps those who say that the US got its "comeuppance" because of its past expansionism may have some sense in them after all.

You cant separate the US from the victims. Anymore than you can separate the government from the citizens. There is no imperialist grip and no one deserved this. Shameful!

The government is not the United States and the United States is not the government!

    baloney!

The government is made up of citizens that are voted into office by citizens. The government is as much the US of A as anything else.

Many of his other characterizations are just as off base.

If he said these things, then he has the obligation to be prepared to defend these very serious charges. And if he has not fully explained himself on this, then this is not a very responsible way to conduct public dialogue to say the least. Even if it is true that, by some objective standard, the actions of the US government can be described as "terrorist", Mr Wright should have taken great care to draw a distinction between the US government and the people who died.

But we have seen in this very thread that people will lash out unthinkingly and deny what is manifestly obvious: the fact that there can be a causal link between the actions of a government and some terrorist action does not mean the actions of the terrorist are somehow "justified".

Certainly the statement above that you quote cannot be taken as "justifying" the actions of the terrorist. But it is equally clear that Mr. Wright is asserting (in this statement) that the US government has "done terrorism".

Is this, in fact, true? I do not know. Obviously its possible. This question should be settled by looking at the facts, if we can get at them.

There is no justification for the terrorist act of 911.

    Period.

No policy of the U.S. government "caused" 911.

    Period.

What we have actually seen is yet another liberal who lives outside of this country with no real understanding of what is going on making failed attempts to backdoor some responsibility on the US for 911. What you would know if you were here is that Wright is a racist and holds to liberation theology. He has no credibility. And neither do outsiders who pretend to think but only strike up vague insinuations about causation as a means to support their liberal blame game.

Are you taking the position that this case has been made? Can you justify your claim?

Man, are you even capable of rational thinking and even-handed treatment of others? I hang my head thinking <personal attack deleted - please note, that personal attacks against other members are against the rules!!! LE>

By the way, Jesus Christ was a "big fan" of liberation theology. Care to debate that issue?

And if you must know, a college acquantance of mine was in the World Trade Center and died on 911.

Nothing rational about your blame game.

Debate? No you have yet to debate anyone. You just run around in circles as has been noted by others.

And? My wifes family is Canadian. But I do not involve myself in Canadian politics as I am not there. The death of a friend does not give you knowledge of the "causation".

    What claim is that?

Any effort to establish a causal relationship between the policies of the U.S. and the murder of 3000 innocents is , in fact, an effort to justify the terrorist attack of 911.

Your reasoning is entirely incorrect here. I have never said anything that remotely implied that any terrorrist action is justified. The careful reader who looks at what I have actually written will know this.

I have never even suggested that the US has a causal role in respect to 911. I raised it as a possibilty, nothing more.

Now I am not sure where we have got in terms of actual debate. Engaging a topic, not each other, is more interesting and fruitful. Can we all put down the bats please.

This food fight is over as of now. FWIW, not many here are supporters of "Liberation Theology."
