Some others but this one worked, the other one I tried died in the middle of 316 meg :-(

Not that it works. Ran about half the install, crashed, rebooted and informed me it partially installed and that xp might not work, at it is having problems even after restoring.

This company could irritate me very easily!

I have the real McCoy, but haven't got around to installing it yet as I have to uninstall the beta of it first. I have a friend who has a MSDN membership who uploaded the image for me. ;)

Some of the downloads out there are actually not the final build, and those that are the real deal are the EXE only and not the additional files.

I figured I'd wait till they put it out officially and hope it has been fixed.

Wife has been trying to get vista sp1 in for couple weeks and finally called MS and they said call Acer, and Acer said to call MS - we all know the routine

Read last night that MS pulled the final version they had just released due to compatibility problems. New release date not announced

Maybe they ought to just reissue 2000 or 98 and forget about development

I have read some reports of some problems, but only with pre-built computers using AMD CPUs... but not all of them. Seems that the manufacturer (HP from what I hear) used the same OS image for both Intel and AMD computers. The problem is a certain file that is used to regulate the power on an Intel chip. It is not used on an AMD installation normally, but SP3 picks it up and utilizes it. This causes a reboot loop... XP is unable to fully boot, and then reboots, over and over. There is a fix that should be done before SP3 is installed, but you will have to Google for it as I don't remember where I found it.

The incompatibility problem was RMA what ever that is on a lot of computers - retail management something. Most of the others aside from the
AMD stuff mentioned is a problem updateing the registry. Some programs lock some keys and then due to sp3s inability to change them it cancels itself out.

There is a fix for that as well. Download a program and create a little file to unlock the keys. That is the one that fixed mine. Something about the sp3 installing in administrator rather than system - seems like maybe a boo boo on MS's part if that is the case.

XP Service Pack 3 is now available on Microsoft's Update site.

As noted there is a smaller update needed prior to its instillation.

All programs closed, firewalls down, antivirus' off,

I'd like to say the program installed flawlessly....

...but after four attempts over more than 3 hours, I've given up.
