A friend of mine is learning to crochet and she has a patten which is worked on a 9mm crochet hook. Unfortunately she can't afford the yarn recommended in the pattern and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a substitute yarn please?

    Many thanks

What kind of yarn was recommended? Maybe if I can identify it I can offer a substitute.

It is a Debbie Bliss yarn called "como".
It is featured in a crochet magazine here in the UK but it is very expensive - particularly for a scarf!

Acrylic yarn is much cheaper than wool or wool blends. She could also crochet with two strands of yarn at once instead of purchasing the super chunky kind. For a scarf, it wouldn't make too much of a difference, I would think.

My friend is new to crochet and she is a lefy who is learning to crochet right handed. Not sure she would want to tackle 2 strands of yarn at the moment, but thanks for the suggestion. :)
