You seem to want to lay any fault for this on everyone else other than Saddam. There is no evidence to support such a fallacy.

You are talking nonsense. To believe what you have stated here one must completely ignore historical fact as well as be completely ignorant of the U.S. Constitution. According to the U.S. Constitution the President is the Commander-in-Chief of all U.S. military forces. Likewise, the U.S. Congress is the sole authority for determining whether or not the U.S. military can go into action. The President sought and obtained the approval of the U.S. Congress prior to returning to a state of hostility with Iraq in 2003. There was and is nothing illegal about what has take place in this regard.

I have already debunked this fallacy (post #45).

Buy Congress never declared war. Thus the war is illegal until that happens.

As already pointed out the UN and the IAEA were responsible for accounting for and getting rid of those weapons and weapons components. Howerver, you are negelecting to acknowledge that Saddam's government played cat and mouse with the inspectors, stonewalled the inspectors, move materials around so the inspectors could never be sure of what was being documented, and ultimately hid the materials from the inspectors. Finally, your point that "the US failed to see to it that this was done" is false. Agreed, that it did not happen under the Clinton Administration. However, it has now happened under the current Bush Administration.

So what was it that the Congress did approve for the Commander-in-Chief to do with the our forces in Iraq? What in the world do you think Senator John Kerry was voting on when he said, "I voted for the War in Iraq before I voted against it"?

    What does this mean? http://archives.cnn.com/2002/ALLPOLITICS/10/11/iraq.us/

Likewise, look at this article and see the historical precedence for US military forces being sent into battle using a Congressional Resolution as opposed to a formal "Declaration of War" (with those words in the title): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Declaration_of_war_by_the_United_States

They approved funding and authorized the use of the armed forces, but never voted on a declaration of war. I believe Congress hedged their bets in the passage of the funding leaving the door to seem open or shut depending on what happened later. Nothing surprising about that.

This statement violates the Law of Noncontradiction. Look at what you have stated.
What does this part of your statement mean in the context of the discussion in which the President went to the Congress seeking approval to engage the armed forces in hostilities in Iraq?

Then in the same breath (sentence) you say:
First there is historical precedent for the Congress to approve the Commander-in-Chief to engage the US armed forces in war going back as far as 1798 based on a Congressional Resolution as opposed to a formal "Declaration of War." Second, there is historically no distinction (but in technical terms there is a distinction) between when the Congress gives its approval for the President to use the armed forces to engage in open hostilities by Congressional Resolution or formal Declaration of War. However, the end result is identical, US Force engage in battle. So your statement is simply playing semantics with the two phrases.

They passed a Congressional Resolution for War in Iraq.

For a quick reference look at this article and see the historical precedence for US military forces being sent into battle using a Congressional Resolution as opposed to a formal "Declaration of War" (with those words in the title): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Declaration_of_war_by_the_United_States

Closing this since it is past 10 pages and there are many reports to mods about this thread, which I don't have time to edit.
