Now I would expect this to be an issue on some liberal, "ecumenical" board.

But how and why am I reading about some country singer or some other secular artists on this board?

How about Garth Brooks, the man that is a wonderful friend to PLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), or how about other "country" singers who will give homage to Jesus in one verse and then sing about alcohol in the next verse?

I'm beginning to think there must be a new version of the Bible out that removes Romans 12:1-2 now.

Don't mean to be harsh, but I'm sorta shocked these things are even deemed acceptable here.

I have had a struggle with music myself at times after the Lord saved me, but that's just it, it's a struggle against it, not something I dive into and enjoy.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Please, remove those things that do (and they do!) hinder you. We all must overcome and get rid of things, this is just something that has been discussed openly and needs to be dealt with openly.

I don't know if you are talking about the Johnny Cash thread I started or not..
I really don't like Country... I mainly listen to CCM... Casting Crowns is my favorite, but when I heard the song by Johnny Cash.. it started me thinking.... ( I was actually on my way to church when I heard it.. we were studying evangelism!)

Anyway, here is the lyrics to "God's gonna cut you down"
You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler, the gambler, the back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
    Well my goodness gracious
let me tell you the news
My head's been wet with the midnight dew
I've been down on bended knee
talkin' to the man from Galilee
He spoke to me in the voice so sweet
I thought I heard the shuffle
    of the angel's feet
    He called my name
    and my heart stood still
When he said, "John go do My will!"
Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler, the gambler, the back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Well you may throw your rock
    and hide your hand
Workin' in the dark against your fellow man
But as sure as God made black and white
    What's down in the dark
will be brought to the light
You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler, the gambler, the back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut you down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut you down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut you down

Sounds like IFBs don't you think?

It really started when someone was referring to several country singers in an older thread. Nothing personal.

I see, and the statement I made about IFBs, I didn't mean all of them...
Since you weren't talking about me, I'll bow out now.

I too am shocked. Shocked by supposedly good Christian men and women driving secular cars like Fords, Chevys, Toyotas, Dodges, etc. You should only drive the kind of car the disciples rode in. The disciples were all in one Accord.

Did God make music for us to praise Him with or did He makes cars for that?

Cars are objects. Music is behavior.

Spou, to be consistent, you should not:
    * Use light bulbs (invented by atheist Thomas Edison)
    * Use Microsoft software (Bill Gates is a non-believer)
    * Don't stay at a Marriott hotel, owned by Mormons
    * Don't buy a Ford (Henry Ford worked with the Nazis)
and on, and on, and on.

In other words, your original argument is without merit.

Hey Spoudazo! I agree with you completely! Kudos to you for admitting your struggle with secular music. That makes your comments more real to me. I too had a big struggle with the music issue after I got saved. Praise the Lord...He gave me victory over it!

Since Spoudazo didn't mention bluegrass music, I guess my choice of music is safe from his condemnation.

Don't you know, Ken. Bluegrass...blue...grass. Music of grass smokin' hippies who don't realize how blue they will become under its demonic influence. Bluegrass is of the devil!

Here is an example of how wicked country music can be.

A lot of Christian husbands would do well to take these words to heart.

Don't get me wrong - I fully understand the dangers of "secular" music, but we need to be careful that we use precision when we shoot our arrows of criticism.

Whew, I was scared when I didn't see what was wrong with the song. I rather like Randy even though he reminds me of days gone by.

I listen to Jazz now so I guess with no words I might be safe????

Don't you know that a Sexaphone is evil.... I meant Saxaphone. And they use DRUMs... And Drums are evil because they derived from pagan tribes... So did the Banjo, So ***poof*** there goes bluegrass...

Why is it when people start condemning music, they always leave out bluegrass... Was this intentional in the OP, or do you consider Bluegrass evil also...
