You know you are a missionary when meters and liters are normal, and you get confused with feet and pounds.

You know you're a missionary if a visiting pastor from the homeland mentions a famous actor and you say, "Who??"

If you and your family use words from two languages when you talk to each other. [IMG] (This is called code switching in linguistics.)

    You didn't, did you?

You know you're a missionary if you don't even realize it's July 4th!

You know you're a missionary when you celebrate "Thanks for Work Day" instead of Thanksgiving.

You know you're a missionary to Asia when little eyes watch you everywhere you go.

Last night we ate at a food court with our co-workers, and a little girl about 7 kept walking by us, looking and wondering. Finally she got up the courage to ask, "What kind of words are you talking?"

You know you're a missionary when you see a T-shirt on a little boy that says in English, "Historic Monster." And many others far stranger every day!

When you have a cafe in town with the English name "Hurl."

When your town has a popular chain of beauty parlors with the name in English, "Seed Hair." [IMG]

My wife, who grew up on the mission field, says:

You might be a missionary if people ask you where you're from and you can't figure out how best to answer the question!

You might be a missionary if you are going home on both legs of your round trip ticket.

You might be a missionary if they don't seem to have enough kinds of cheese in America.

Then again, you might be a missionary if your kids can quote scripture verses, and also can quote the speech the stewardess gives before takeoff.

    Thanks! These are all great.

The cheese one is the opposite for us. Japan has few cheeses, and they are always expensive.

On the other hand, there are few varieties of seaweed in the US!

Yes, wherever you go, it's hard to find that food you really want. My wife tells of trying to find peanut butter in France. And you think-- Really? Peanut butter? How could they not have peanut butter? They have it more now than they used to, I guess.

Missionary kids from Australia coming back to the US and pining away because there isn't any Vegemite. . . . .

You know you're a missionary if you serve God in a country that doesn't have root beer! (As far as I know it's only in the US.)
Ugh! I tried that stuff. Truly an acquired taste.
