    Tuor,

Let's establish first the sovereignty of God. Please read them carefully. Perhaps you will come to see that all things are possible with God. I hope so.

    The Sovereignty of God
    compiled by
    David Sprenger

    Matthew 10:29
Not one of them [sparrows] will fall to the ground apart from your Father.

    Matthew 15:13
Every plant which my heavenly Father did not plant shall be rooted up.

    Matthew 18:14
Thus it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones perish.

    Matthew 19:11
Not all men can accept this statement, but only those to whom it has been given.

    Matthew 19:26
With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.

    Matthew 20:23
This is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by My Father.

For many are called, but few are chosen.

    Matthew 24:22
But for the sake of the elect those days shall be cut short.

    Matthew 26:54
How then shall the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen this way.

    Mark 4:10-12
To you has been given the mystery of the kingdom of God; but those who are outside get everything in parables.... lest they return again and be forgiven.

    Mark 13:20
But for the sake of the elect whom He chose, He shortened the days.

    Luke 8:10
To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest it is in parables; in order that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.

    Luke 10:21-22
No one knows who the Father is except the Son...and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.

    Luke 18:27
The things impossible with men are possible with God.

    Luke 20:38
    For all live to Him.

    John 1:12-13
Who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of [the will of] God.

    John 3:27
A man can receive nothing unless it has been given him from heaven.

    John 6:37

    John 6:39
And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing....

    John 6:44
No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him.

    John 8:36
If therefore the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.

    John 8:43

And if I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men to Myself.

    John 12:39-40

I do not speak of all of you. I know the ones I have chosen.

You did not choose Me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should remain.

    Romans 3:23-24
For all have sinned and fall short [Greek present tense: are sinning and falling short] of the glory of God, being justified [Greek present passive] as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus.

    Romans 4:17
...Even God, who gives life to the dead and calls into being that which does not exist.

    Romans 5:6
For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.

    Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

    Romans 5:10
For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

    Romans 5:15
But the free gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one [Adam] the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many.

    Romans 5:18
So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness there resulted justification of life to all men.

    Romans 5:19
For as through the one man's [Adam's] disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous.

    Romans 5:20
And the law came in that the transgression might increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more.

    Romans 8:20-21

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

    Romans 8:29
    For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren;

    Romans 8:30
And whom He predestined, these He also called; and whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

    Romans 8:31
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us who is against us?

    Romans 8:33
Who will bring a charge against God's elect? God is the one who justifies.

    Romans 9:11
For though the twins were not yet born, and had not done anything good or bad, in order that God's purpose according to His choice might stand, not because of works, but because of Him who calls...

    Romans 9:16
So then it does not depend on the man who wills or the man who runs, but on God who has mercy.

    Romans 9:18
So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires.

    Romans 9:19
You will say to me then, "Why does He still find fault? For who can resist His will?

    Romans 9:20
On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, "Why did you make me like this," will it?

    Romans 9:21
Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honor, and another for dishonor?

    Romans 9:22
What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction?

    Romans 9:23
In order that He might make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He prepared beforehand for glory,

    Romans 9:24
...even us, whom He also called, not from among Jews only, but also from among Gentiles.

    Romans 9:27
And Isaiah cries out concerning Israel, "Though the number of the sons of Israel be as the sand of the sea, it is the remnant that will be saved.

    Romans 11:5
In the same way then, there has also come to be at the present time a remnant according to God's gracious choice [Lit., God's choice of grace.]

    Romans 11:26
And thus all Israel will be saved; just as it is written, "The Deliverer will come from Zion, and He will remove ungodliness from Jacob."

    Romans 11:27
"And this is My covenant with them, when I take away their sins."

    Romans 11:28
    From the standpoint of the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but from the standpoint of God's choice they are beloved for the sake of the fathers;

    Romans 11:29
...for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

For God has shut up all men in disobedience that He may show mercy to all.

Then he answered and said to me, "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel saying, 'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' says the Lord or hosts. 'What are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become a plain; and he will bring forth the top stone with shouts of "Grace, grace to it!"

    Zechariah 8:12-13
And I will cause the remnant of this people to inherit all these things. And it will come about that just as you were a curse among the nations, O house of Judah and house of Israel, so I will save you that you may become a blessing. Do not fear. Let your hands be strong.

    Zechariah 9:10
And He will speak peace to the nations; and His dominion will be from sea to sea, and from the River [i.e., the Euphrates] to the ends of the earth.

    Zechariah 14:8-9
And it will come about in that day that living waters will flow out of Jerusalem, half of them toward the eastern sea and the other half toward the western sea; it will be in summer as well as in winter. And the Lord will be king over all the earth; in that day the Lord will be one, and His name one. [some trans. add "the only one".]

    Malachi 1:11
For from the rising of the sun, even to its setting, My name will be great among the nations, and in every place incense is going to be offered to My name, and a grain offering that is pure; for My name will be great among the nations, says the Lord of hosts.

[Ed., An attempt has been made to include the most prominent scriptures concerning the sovereignty of God's will and plan over His creation. More are being added as they are discovered. There are also many others too numerous to mention which were not included because of the close similarity with those already listed.]

    Diane,

I hope that was cut and paste and that you didn't type all that out by hand... [IMG]

I'm sorry, but you have yet to show me where the Bible says that everyone is going to heaven. It isn't that God couldn't, it is that God didn't.

You even posted in your list where Jesus says that not everyone is going to be saved.

    Tuor,

    You wrote:

That question was directed to John3v36.

    As to the feast...

Was Jesus in error when he gave the parable of the wedding feast?

    Link to Matthew 22:1-14

Was Jesus incorrect when he said "For many are called, but few are chosen"?

    I reply:

As you look into the word "wrath", especially when Jesus used the word, do a search (yes, even in a Strong's Concordance) and find Strong's # 3709.

3709 orge or-gay' from 3713; properly, desire (as a reaching forth or excitement of the mind), i.e. (by analogy), violent passion (ire, or (justifiable) abhorrence); by implication punishment:--anger, indignation, vengeance, wrath. see GREEK for 3713

What I find so very interesting is that "properly", this word means "desire" (and perhaps a very strong desire).

Now look to its root word:

3713 oregomai or-eg'-om-ahee middle voice of apparently a prolonged form of an obsolete primary (compare 3735); to stretch oneself, i.e. reach out after (long for):--covet after, desire. see GREEK for 3735

The root word means to "reach out after" or to "long for".

What we have here is something that really has nothing to do with anger and retribution, much less any eternal punishment.

This "wrath" is an immensely strong desire or "strongly longing for".

I wonder what God really, strongly desires or "longs for"?

He who has faith in the Son has eternal life; but he who has not faith in the Son will not see life; God's wrath is resting on him. (John 3:36)

Those that have faith in Him will "know the Father and the Son, whom the Father sent", but those that don't will not know them and God's very strong desire is upon them.

((((Many are called but few are chosen))))

I ask you Tuor - Who does the calling? Who does the choosing? This disproves nothing. God is sovereign.

And about the feast. Who was it that will not sup? The invitees. When they refused all the outcasts were invited.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.....maybe those invitees will be serving the outcasts and eating crow in the kitchen. Oh the lessons will continue! This does not disprove that all will not be at His table.

In Gensis God pronounced: He (Jesus) will bruise your head (serpent) and you (serpent) will bruise His (Jesus) heel. See John 13:18 and Rom 16:20.

Satan is and will be CRUSHED, Tuor, in light of Christ's finished work on the cross.

Hey, have a nice day. [IMG]

I ask you Tuor - Who does the calling? Who does the choosing? This disproves nothing. God is sovereign.

God is doing the calling by writing in our hearts His truths, our conscience. The ones who were chosen are the ones that listen to that conscience and accept Jesus as Lord(I don't necessarily believe this is what many believe this to mean).

And about the feast. Who was it that will not sup? The invitees. When they refused all the outcasts were invited.

If you will notice, even some of those who were invited from the streets were cast out for improper attire.

Satan is and will be CRUSHED, Tuor, in light of Christ's finished work on the cross.

Very true. Satan doesn't cause us to sin. Satan tempts us to sin. God will not cast out people because of Satan, God will cast out people due to their choices.

    Tuor,

I never felt as if I had a choice. Once I got a glimpse of the awesome love of Christ - I was hooked. [IMG] There has been no turning back since. He has gotten a hold of me. Joy unspeakable!

Believers of the first few centuries knew that joy and they know that the Greek word "ta panta" meant "all."

1Tim 2:6-Salvation of all is testified in due time- Are we judging God before due time?

Jn 12:47-Jesus came to save all-Will He succeed?

Rm 5:15-21-In Adam all condemned, in Christ all live- The same all?

1Cor 15:22-In Adam all die, in Christ all live- Again, the same all?

Eph 1:10-All come into Him at the FULLNESS OF TIMES – When?

Luke 2:10-Jesus will be joy to all people – Hallelujah!

Heb 8:11,12- All will know God – All?

1Tim 2:4-God will have all to be saved-Can His will be thwarted?

1Tim 2:4-God desires all to come to the knowledge of truth- Will His desire come to pass?

Rm 11:32-All subject to unbelief, mercy on all- All?

Rm 11:36-All out of, through, and into Him-ALL into Him?

1Cor 15:28-God will be all in all- What does THAT mean?

This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires ("will have" in some translations) all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in DUE TIME. (1 Tim 2:3-6).
1 John 4:14 tells us that the Father sent the Son to be Savior of the world. John 3:35 tells us that the Father has given all into Jesus' hands. It is the desire of the Father to save all and He has given Jesus all power and authority to do his will. "This is the will of the Father Who sent Me, that of all He has given Me, I should lose nothing, but raise it up at the last day." (John 6:39) The Father has given all into His hands. (John 3:35)

3:35) Phl 2:9-11-Every tongue shall confess Jesus is Lord- Will the Holy Spirit be given to everyone?

1Cor 12:3-Cannot confess except by Holy Spirit- See what I mean?

It is interesting that translators want to change the meanings of words. Look at the Liddell, Scott, Jones Greek Lexicon you will see that pas (another form of the word for all) does not have the meaning of "some" in any sense. In the singular it means "the whole" or "the entire" and in the plural it means "all" or "every".

There is a perfectly good Greek word for some, which the writers of the New Testament knew well and used when referring to "some". That Greek word is tis.

Peter himself here shows that he knew the difference between "some" and "all"...

2 Peter 3.9 The Lord is not slow concerning His promise, as some (tis) count slowness, but is longsuffering towards you, not wanting some (tis) to perish but all (pas) to come to repentance.

Matthew 16.28 Truly I say to you that there are some (tis) of the ones standing here...

Matthew 28.11 And as they were going behold some (tis) of the guard...

Mark 7.2 And having seen some (tis) of his disciples...

Mark 14.65 And some (tis) began to spit on Him...

Luke 19.39 And some (tis) of the Pharisees from the crowd said to Him, Teacher...

John 6.64 But there are some (tis) of you who do not believe...

John 11.46 But some (tis) of them went away to the Pharisees...

Acts 5.15 So as even into the streets to carry out the sick and to put them on beds and mats, that coming, at least the shadow of Peter might fall upon some (tis) of them.

Acts 17.4 And some (tis) of them were persuaded and were joined to Paul and Silas...

Romans 11.17 But if some (tis) of the branches were broken off...

1 Corinthians 4.18 Now some (tis) are puffed up...

1 Corinthians 6.11 And such were some (tis) of you...

2 Corinthians 3.1 Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some (tis) epistles of commendation to you...

2 Corinthians 10.12 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some (tis) that commend themselves...

Galatians 1.7 Which is not another, but there are some (tis) troubling you and desire to pervert the gospel of Christ.

Philippians 1.15 Some (tis) indeed even through envy and strife preach Christ, but some indeed through goodwill.

2 Thessalonians 3.11 For we hear of some (tis) among you walking disorderly...

1 Timothy 1.6 From which some (tis) having swerved have turned aside unto vain talking.
2 Timothy 2.18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already, and overthrowing the faith of some (tis).

It is my hope that some will come to know His glorious love NOW and not have to wait until the fullness of times. Blessed be His Holy Name for there is NONE like Him!

Putting on the wedding clothes daily which is remembering Who the Bridegroom is will bring an awareness of His work of grace poured upon us. He is sitting now with the God the Father Who sat after He finished His work. May we enter into His rest as well.

I pray God's richest blessings on you,

    Diane

From my point of view, what you are saying isn't necessarily the actual truth. People who are gay say they never had a choice either. Perhaps the choices we make are so small and seemingly meaningless, that we don't recognize the choice as a choice.

I'm not trying to be mean or anything like that, I am just trying to post my observation.

Believers of the first few centuries knew that joy and they know that the Greek word "ta panta" meant "all."

Judging from all the herecy that the Apostles were having to fight, perhaps your views of the early church aren't exactly accurate.

Jesus came to save all-Will He succeed?

All of whom? All of the elect? All people? Judging from what Jesus said, this must mean the elect.

Could you do me a favor and answer one question:

Was Jesus truthful when he said "Not all who say to me lord, lord will enter the kingdom of heaven."

I don't think you're mean at all, Tuor. I appreciate your honesty.

I don't have all (LOL) the answers. I know the One who does. If He ever reveals to me the answer to the Lord, Lord....verse, you'll be the first I'll let know.

Keep digging brother (are you a brother?) for the answers.

    Hello GH,

    First Off...Nice Posts.... [IMG]

After All Those Breath-Taking Posts That Were Presented..The Lord, Lord Passage Stumps You?...I Thought By Reading Your Last Two Posts..You Answered That Question?

    Many Times..........

Anyhoo...Jesus Spoke About Immediate spiritual Changes........

Just What Does "Entering The Kingdom of Heaven" Mean?..and Where Is This Place?
or even "The Gate" or entrance, Where One Enters?.....

Heres A Clue....during pauls times, judieizers were mentioned..adding to the work of jesus christ. mixing the law with the atoneing blood of jesus to their faith...did it stop their understanding of Gods redemptive work in their lives...yea buddy.. Their Understanding was darkened and their faith dimenished..Did They Seek Gods Forgiveness...Nope. They Didnt Even want to Address God About The Issues. Did God Work Through Them To Others...Possibly..Cast out Demons...in Jesus Name...perform Miracles....In Jesus Name..

But They WOULDNT ENTER INTO THE PRESENTS OF GOD...To Ask Forgiveness...To Ask For Mercy... They Knew Jesus As Personal Savior...But Not As LORD.......

They Can Say Lord Lord All Day Long..but it doesnt mean anything..to them
They Are Their Own God....Just Using Jesus As Their Savior..

Entering into The Rest Of Christ Requires Total Submission To A Holy God...
Dying To Self means All...Total Submission..Laying All Cares Upon A Holy God..
Allthough The Results May be Good or Bad..Total Submission is A Pre-Requisite To Becoming A Servant Of The Lord Jesus Christ.

Second..Jesus Died For All Sin..All...He's God..He Can Do That..
Jesus Is The Blueprint of Creation. The Physical Expression of Gods Love To Mankind.
God Loves His Creation...He's Not Just Going To Allow Anyone to Destroy or Upsurp It.
So The Expression That God Love You..Means He Made You..and will Preserve You for His Good Pleasure.......Jesus Character is Love...His Very Creative Nature is Based On Love..Its Based On Mercy..Its Based On Forgiveness..

Another Reason That Man Doesn't Stand Before A Holy God (other Than Utter Submission) Is
Not Understanding God's Nature..Offering Mercy and Forgiveness To ALL.. Knowing The Son means Knowing The Father....He Is Love and Forgiveness and Mercy..

They Can Say Lord Lord All Day..But They Wont Accept Forgiveness Before A Holy God

When Man Adds to or takes away from The Work Of Jesus AND Doesnt Understand That Jesus Has And Will Continue To Forgive all Whom The Father Draws To Him...

They Choose Not To Enter Into The Kingdom of Heaven..All They Want To Do Is Hide From Him.
The Guests without A Wedding Garment....Hint..They Dont Want To Put It On...They Already own it....Wrong Place..Wrong Time..Without Your Wedding Garment....

God Speaks Mainly of Two Types Of Believers (in Christ)..Carnal and Spiritual..
Its The Carnal Christians that like to Dabble in adding and taking away from Gods Completed Work.. or Holding onto Sin That Must Be Given To Jesus..Making Ones Wedding Garment Clean Again or walking around like a proud rooster...Saying Lord Lord...Jesus Saved Me.. But Is He Your Lord?..Huh? (That Total Submission and understanding that His Nature Is Forgiveness Stuff...) Or Simply To Receive Rest and Assurance of A Loving Lord...Well Done..Good and Faithful Servant.

    Many Called, Few Chosen...GH Knows....

How About Many Carnal, Few Spiritual...or Many disobedient, Few Obedient...or
or Many Dead In Christ, Few Alive In Christ or Many Vessels of Wrath, Few Vessels of Mercy
or Many Sleeping in Christ, Few Awake In Christ

or Few That Be That Find It...The Gate, I Mean..

    Hi Diane [IMG]

I remember doing this kind of study...

Can you truly say that everywhere you find orge, your way of reading the word, really fits the context?

Eph 4:31 - get rid of all longing?

Rom 13:4 - God's agent is the is the agent of strong longing to bring punishment to the person who does evil?

Rom 12:19 - don't avenge but leave room for God's strong longing instead?

Rom 3:15 - if our unrighteousness shows God's righteousness more clearly, then is He unjust in bringing His strong longing on us?

I would like to say that your interpretation of John 3 is the right one. I'd like to find universalism in the Bible, I really would.

However...it seems to me that the other uses of orge show it to mean passionate anger, not just passion or strong longing.

I'm interested in your reponse [IMG]

    Me2,

Either you are confused or I am. It is my understanding that Diane (GH) is a proponent of Universal salvation: everyone is going to heaven. Me2, you seem to be be saying that there are those who won't be saved.

    Diane,

I am a guy. The whole brother and sister thing bothers me when it comes to people I really don't know.

So did I, but at some point I sensed that I should let it rest for now. Ya know what I mean? And I agree with what you said. They cannot hear the bells! By God's will and choosing, I believe. Maybe so that we could learn to love? I'm learning. [IMG]

Oh what sweet rest, it is. Such work it is to labor into His rest....stop striving and know that I am God - sweet words. As Mary Magdalene broke the alabaster jar of nard and washed His feet with her hair, we lie at His feet in worship of the Living God. All else pales in comparison.

When Man Adds to or takes away from The Work Of Jesus AND Doesnt Understand That Jesus Has And Will Continue To Forgive all Whom The Father Draws To Him...

    I reply:

God's new covenant with man is expression-based. It is not performance-based.

In the old covenant, the emphasis was on performing laws. Man was instructed to live by a set of rules and regulations, and if he didn't, he died.

In the new covenant, the emphasis is on expressing God. God lives in man, and His inner presence flows outward as a river of holiness, good works, and fruit of the Spirit.

Many today live performance-based lives. They take the New Testament and make it a set of laws to live by. They consider these beautiful writings a list of rules and regulations to be obeyed. And according to them, if you don't live up to this standard, you are not pleasing God.

Living by a set of rules and regulations didn't work. That's why God instituted a new covenant.

"(Our covenant is) not in a written code, but in the Spirit. For the written code kills, but the Spirit gives life."

If anyone comes to you with a teaching that claims you must do something to be reconciled to God, do something to please God, or even do something to receive God's blessings, reject it. That is performance-based, old covenant thinking.

God, living within us, is the Doer.

Jesus said, "Out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water."

The Holy Spirit's inner presence flows gloriously outward.

Hi Helen (the other one - right?)

If you do a study on God's anger - any concordance will help - you find many surprising answers.

    He's slow to anger.

    It doesn't last forever.

His love far out lasts His anger.

There's much more, but I'll let you savor that sweet morsel for yourself.

In fact, don't let go of Him until He answers you. [IMG]

    Tuor,

I hear you about the brothers and sisters thing.

But consider this, we have God's DNA. He made us a family. He's the God and Father of all.

If we say we love God and do not love our brother we are liars. Remember that one?

    Peace, Diane

I recognize all those things as Biblical. What I'm not sure about is that orge can be translated as a positive longing for, rather than a passionate anger against.

Ah, I recognize that too...but I don't want to end up with a limp!!! :D

(Gen 32:26 Then the man said, "Let me go, for it is daybreak." But Jacob replied, "I will not let you go unless you bless me." )

    Peace, Diane

    And also to you! [IMG]

If we say we love God and do not love our brother we are liars. Remember that one?

Yes, but how do we show that we love our brother or not? It is based on our actions?

The brother thing I am talking about can be found in 1 Corinthians 5. I know, Paul is not Jesus. But Jesus did choose Paul. I believe Paul brought Jesus' message.

By the way, I'd still like to know if you thought Jesus was wrong when he said that not everyone will enter the kingdom of heaven.

He said not everyone, but only those who do the will of my heavenly Father.

So this is salvation by works - by obedience, is it? Only those who do His will?

It seems to me that by bringing in that verse you raise more new questions than you answer...

Only if you are trying to be a 'anti-works' advocate. The Bible is clear that our actions are the fruit of our heart. One can't pretend. One can't blow it off.

Those who have been given to Jesus are his. Those who are not are not. Good works don't mean we are doing God's will. Works don't get us into heaven. Jesus' sacrifice gets his people into heaven. Jesus' people produce certain fruit. It is as simple as that.

***I just don't see how one can believe in universal salvation when Jesus clearly states that not everyone is going to heaven***

By the way, it is my understanding that salvation has always been achieved the same way. There is no new and old covenant for salvation. All are saved by Jesus Christ. All demonstate who they worship by their actions. As Jesus said when he quoted Isaiah
